Hello-

I've been going around in circles with my health for years now.  I've been diagnosed with Hashimoto's, Celiac Disease, and Adrenal insufficiency (possibly Addison's).  For 3 years, I've been going doctor to doctor being treated with the various hormones plus went gluten free for over a year and no improvement in health.  Which led me to a lyme diagnosis in July by Igenex.

I've been working with a LLMD here in Wisconsin since then.  He started me on augmentin just to see how I'd respond.  Things went fine, he switched me to Clarithyrmicin....I began having pretty bad back pain and joint knee pain, which were new symptoms for me.   I bought a home portable infrared sauna and have been sitting in that daily.  He then increased the Clarithyrmicin to 500mg twice a day.....now added Doxy 200mg a day.  I think the Doxy is causing nausea even when I take it with food, unless that's a herx symptom?

I'm frustrated that I haven't had a major Herx reaction or seen much improvement.  We think I've had this for years since it has caused these autoimmune diseases I have.  I know this is going to take time, but it seems like I should be noticing something good or bad by now.  I've been told I'm really on low dose meds.

Is there anything else I can do in the meantime?  I see him again in November.  He told me to hold these 2 abx at these doses until then.  I just don't know what to expect or how to help myself get better faster.

My symptoms are:  severe fatigue, sleep problems, hair loss, hormonal imbalances, mood disturbances, light/sound/smell sensitivity, constipation, now joint knee pain.....I'm sure there are more!

Thanks for reading and any input.

I didn't notice any major herxes until I started in mepron/zithro to kill the cyst form of Lyme. I think when you've had it for awhile it goes out of the blood and buries itself in your CNS, joints, muscles etc. Maybe you need a stronger med to stir up the bacteria that is hiding. Most LLMD's do this gradually. It took a couple months to notice a big herx with me, but I did react to doxy a bit in the beginning. Had overwhelming fatigue! Hope u start to see some improvement soon.

Hi Lorig!!
WElcome to HW's Lyme forum!!! yeah I'm really sorry that you are feeling poorly, but I'm sure you will find a ton of info, and understanding, caring, helpful people here!!

Have you read the thread "New to Lyme? Start here"?? You will find a wide variety of info there. I would highly recommend it!! smilewinkgrin

Have you done any detoxing? This will help the body rid itself of a lot more toxins, a lot faster.

If you don't have a tub, I would reccomend the foot baths. I found all that I needed to do foot baths already in my cupboard!!

I hope this helps some!!! smilewinkgrin ~

I had lyme for at least 3 years before diagnosis and also had hormonal problems with repeatedly being told menopausal and hashimotos dx. I was on amoxicillin for 7 months and experienced continual knee and joint pain for first time once I added probenecid to the amox. After about five months on that, I was feeling so much better. Joints gradually got better and fatigue was practically gone for first time in 4 years. Now I am off amox. and on doxy for erlichliosis and I am seeing a return of the old symptoms, headaches are back, anxiety high, heart racing, etc. I too am confused although my dr. says I'll be fine after a month of doxy. God help him when I go back in November. Best of luck.

Hi lorig,

Welcome to the forum! I see that others here have already given you some great information. I wanted to add one more thought though. You said you were detoxing regularly so that could be why you're not having a major herx, which is a good thing. Keep doing what you're doing.

Thank you everyone for your replies. I read the newbie section and that is good information. I think I will do the bath - off to Walmart today :)

I thought me doing the sauna so regularly might be why I'm not having a major herx reaction, but why aren't I getting better then? Because it takes a long time apparently and I might not be on strong enough abx yet I'm assuming.

Anything else I can do to speed up my healing?

I'll keep reading on the site. I'm glad I found you all.
