My husband had his regular flu shot a little over a week ago.  He was successfully treated for lyme for 18 months and had been fine more than a year.

Then he had the flu shot............the neck pain is back, the shoulder pain, fatigue, etc.

He insists it does not feel like lyme pain.  However, he had not been bothered in the neck and shoulder area since he completed treatment for lyme well over a year ago, actually closer to two years.

What are your thoughts on this................could his symptoms be related to the shot?  Could this have re-activated the spirochetes and started the whole lyme thing back up again.  He got a flu shot last year and did not have any problems afterwards.

Your thoughts are appreciated.

Hi Anne,

Do you think that he may be experiencing symptoms of the flu? The regular flu gives us a few of the same symptoms as Lyme.

Cajun Girl,

No, it is not the flu.  He is somewhat better today after having slept alot last night.  He doesn't feel right but is not outright sick is I guess the best way to describe it.  The flu would have knocked him on his butt.  ( I basing this on past experiences with the flu).  He does not have a fever.  What he is acting like and the symptoms he is showing very closely resembles what he was like before being diagnosed with lyme.  However, it could be that he is fighting some "bug" off and that is hasn't quite taken hold yet.

Im hoping it's not Lyme symptoms. Do you think that maybe he had just a few symptoms of the flu from the flu shot and his body is fighting it off? I know you know him better than I do, lol, but stiff neck is a flu symptom too.

Does he take supplements? Ask his doctor if Vitamin C and echinacea would help get him over this hump. It may just be a bug like you said....hopefully. It's so hard with this disease to know what exactly is going on since it mimics so many other things.

Anne,

I am experiencing the exact same thing your husband is right now, however, I did not have a flu shot. I was treated with anitibiotics for 8 months and I have been symptom free for a year. I have recently been experiencing symptoms that resemble my beginning experiences with Lyme such as stiff neck, mild aches and pains in muscles and joints, mild fatigue, dizzy spell. My youngest and now my husband was/is sick with some sort of "bug" so I am hoping that my body is just trying to fight off this particular "bug". I am keeping a close eye on it and if I continue to get worse I will be heading to my Lyme doctor.
