Hi All,
I was wondering if any of you are taking ALA (Alpha-Lipoic Acid), Pregnenolone, or Siberian Eleuthero, and what your experience, good or bad has been.  Also, what doses are you taking and did you have to work up to that dose?  Thanks, KO

Is ALA the same thing as Lipoic Acid? I have seen both mentioned: not sure if they are the same.

I take alpha lipoic acid, 100 mg though recently I've been trying to remember to take 300mg since that's what it says to do on Dr. Burrascano's notes.  I never noticed any side effects at either dose.    I don't know anything about that Eleuthero.

What's the use in Lyme for pregnenolone?

Hi, I take pregnenolone, but not for Lyme -- for adrenal issues. I really don't know if it's helping or not. I've been taking it for about 4 months and now I'm on 20 mg 3x/day. Still experiencing pain, exhaustion -- you name it.

PSR1, There is R-Lipoic Acid and S-Lipoic Acid, Alpha Lipoic Acid is a 50/50 mix of the 2.  What was your dose and what did you think of it?

Rcenters, In Lyme disease Pregnenolone is specifically helpful for supporting collagen in skin, joints, and reducing arthritic and skin symptoms (per Stephen Buhner).  FYI he recommends 600mg/day of the ALA.  Can you tell if the ALA has helped with any of your symptoms at all?

I have no way of separating out effects of anything specific....starting in June this year I started eating a specially chosen diet, taking 10-15 supplements(some herbs, some of this and some of that including ALA), doing exercise and replacing 100% soda consumption with 100% water. Prior to that I had been doing no exercise and eating, uh, very unhealthy, and drinking nothing but Pepsi. I changed to my current regimen all at once, so I can't really say what anything specific has done for me.

Does pregnenolone require a prescription?

rcenters, Pregnenolone does not require a Rx.  I got mine through iherb along with the ALA and a bunch of other supplements.  If you order thru them you can use this code for 5 dollars off cow003.  KO

I take 300 mg ALA and just increased it to 600mg. I do not notice any difference in how I feel. It is just a powerful antioxidant. I used to take pregnenolone and it is wonderful for regulating hormones. It helped me a lot. I don't take it any more because after menopause I am on armour thyroid and bio identical hormones.
For collagen I use hyaluronic acid or HA which is extremely helpful. My eyes become very dry and blood shot when I do not have it.
