Ever since I started treating bartonella, I've had these weird symptoms like blinking my eyes too much. I squench my cheeks too. I also move around alot while I'm sitting. It feels like I can't stay still. I've been doing other weird things that I'm too embarassed to post, lol. It has to be the meds because I wasn't doing any of this before.

Anyone else have any weird things start up while on treatment?

okay i'm not on abx so i don't know how much this will mean to you but i've noticed a few OCD things in myself- not the ones youve mentioned but one that is rather embaressing but i don't care about posting- lol- is there are times i cant stop moving my tongue over my teeth. i keep moving it around the back of my bottom teeth over and over and i'm just glad this is something no one else can notice! one other is that since my nails have grown out i catch myself examining them for no reason whatsoever! strange, but i guess its a good sign that we are AWARE we are being a little OCD. I do think in your situation though you may truly be experiencing something from the meds especially if you didn't notice anything odd before. i'm sure someone else here has had a similar experience while on something.

CajunGrl,

Make sure you tell your LLMD about these symptoms - some medications can cause a type of severe restlessness (akathisia) that may become permanent if the medication is not stopped. I don't know what meds you are on, so I don't know if this is a possibility for your or not...but please talk to your doctor about this.

Take care,

Hey CG,

I still read here all time to keep up with you.  I have had this some too.  I always wonder if it is not either meds or neuro damage.  In MS (and we know the epidemeology of the two diseases is poorly understood) there is neuro damage that causes in increase in OCD to show up.  I have had to deal with this.  I have had times of the hideous and cliche hand washing.  There is lots you can do while trying to figure out what is causing it.  The bummer is, you will problaby be the only one to figure out why you are you experiencing this.

One of the major factors is stress and lets see....oh yeah you have had a ton of that lately with the death of your daddy.  So be gentle with yourself and understand you may be using these odd behaviors as comfort.  One way to see of these behavoirs are really compulsive is to try NOT t do them.  When I did this with the hand washing....I would start so sweat and I didn't get relief until I washed.  (sure sign...... turn ).

The usual treatments are SSRI type antidepressants.... you can google those for yourself.  But also a therapist can help you figure out what you are dealing with.  Lots of people can also do this on their own via journalling and self help type books. The bottom line is; most theorize that OCD is a way to self comfort when we are feeling out of control and stressed ALONG with chemical and neuro changes.

Well that is what I found out as went through this.  All these ramblings are my own opinion and not at all professional!  I do hope they help in some way.  Feel better soon.

My bartonella herx made me manic, obsessive and couldn't sleep. It lasted about 4 weeks. You might want to cut back the medication to half and go up slower if it is too disconcerting.

I still get a lot of turretz like cursing and talking to myself.

Thanks everyone! You all always give me great opinions and info.

Cmacaran: Thats very interesting. I haven't been able to sleep either and I've also had some emotional outbursts. Little things have been bothering me lately.

I'm wondering, do you have any jerking going on?

I didn't have any jerking, but I did cry at little things or nothing and snap at nothing and curse at nothing for weeks.

Ugh I totally cry and stupid things and snap at little things. But not every day! It is so up and down! I think one of the biggest adjustments for me in having Lyme is how it is the complete opposite of what I used to be. I mean some people don't have patience and are snippy, some people battle with depression and OCD right? So if they got Lyme it wouldn't be a huge adjustment? Does that even make sense? I second guess everything I say or type anymore.

Jenn I am so there with you. I don't trust my own emotional judgement any more. sEcond guess too much and snap off too much. I was very laid back, now I am crabby and anxious. I hate who I have become.
