Hi everyone: When there is mention of B12 injections it is always the methyl B12. I have always injected the cyanocobalamin. Can someone tell me the difference in the two forms of B12 and is the methyl formula superior? Thanks~D

The reason for this is that the liver must convert cyanocobalamin to methylcobalamin before the body can utilize it. People who have Lyme disease have trouble converting the cyanocobalamin to methylcobalamin so it is easier to give Lyme patients the methyl form.

You have to get methylcobalamin from a compounded pharmacy.

Thank you CG. Does this mean that my body is not using the form that I am injecting or just having  trouble converting  it? D

Hey Dowa,

Well, it depends. Not all of us has this problem.

How long have you been on the cyano? Do you feel a difference at all energy wise?

I've read that when B-12 is actually absorbed in the body that it will dump the rest that it doesn't need out through the urine. I get this all the time with the Methyl but never with the cyano. I also never felt a difference in energy while I was on the cyano. It does work for some people though and it is the cheapest. Methyl can be pretty pricey.

I have been injecting B12 for over 20 years...yes, twenty. I never knew that there were two different forms of B12. So, I may have been wasting it all these years, wouldnt that be something.  As far as noticing a difference with fatigue, it has been too long to remember in the beginning. Is there a test to see if your liver is not converting it CG? Thanks   D
