Hi All,

This is something new, have been getting Sciatica (sp?) twice so far.  It's a real pain in the butt, no joke!  Anyone else have this?  I don't know if it's related to the Lyme or not.  I haven't had this since I was pregnant with my son 15 years ago.

KO - I get sciatica, too. Usually on the right from my hip to my foot, but sometimes on the left from my hip to my knee. The chiropractor I am seeing has helped a lot with this. I don't know if it is related to Lyme, but I think it could be just because all of my joints are poppy and unstable.

Yes, my first Lyme symptom was wandering leg pains that mimics sciatica...usually worse in the evening/night, picks one leg or the other, or starts in both and then settles on one side or the other. Affected area is low back all the way down to tips of my toes. Chiropractors have sworn they could "cure" it but their treatments did not help. Now I know why - it is the wandering joint pains of Lyme.

What helps me: Heat - heating pad on my lower back. Homeopathic Causticum, if I take it when the pain first starts. Exercise (low back stretches, etc.). And the pain has not occurred as frequently since I've been on antibiotics. I think Nettles also may help with my pain.

Your experience may be different from mine - if indeed your issue is truely sciatica and not the strange leg pains like what I've gotten.

Good luck,

Razzle, You described it better then I could have! PCP called it sciatica, I call it wandering lameness! And heat seems to be the only thing that helps.

It probably is. Considering borrelia attacks the nervous system and causes inflammation, it's not likely a coincidence. I have a Lymie acquaintance who suffered horribly with sciatica for months.

YES, we suffer from this. My teenager and myself------I'm sure it's from the lyme/coinfections. I had a lot of tests and "pictures" taken of my back and they could not find a good reason for the kind of severe pain I was having (they were not lyme docs). Probably thought I needed a "shrink". Anyway, antiinflammatory drugs can help soothe it. Physical therapy can sometimes help it not occur as often.
Best wishes. bablymers mom
