Has anyone had swelling of the liver and kidneys?

Over the last 10 weeks my liver has been swelling now it looks like my kidneys are doing it to. I thought if I back off on treatment it would get better but I caught the flu and stopped treatment for 2 weeks and it's worse. It causes my ribs and low spin to be sore.

Thank you for your time and help

yogamom,

Does your doctor know about this? I'm assuming he does since you know it's your liver and kidneys swelling.

Your doctor will probably want you to stop all medications right away. Two weeks is not a long enough time for the swelling to go down. This is VERY serious and I hope your doctor has told you that.

Swelling of the liver usually means that it's not filtering out all the substances and toxins. When this happens, those subtances and toxins go in your blood and could also get in your brain. You probably need to do a liver and kidney cleanse, but ask your doctor first.

I hope you take this seriously. This could be very dangerous. This is one example of what I've been trying to explain could happen.

Two of my doctor's know. They are more concerned about about getting me back on the samento. I was diagnosed after it was in my brain. I have had several TIA's due to lyme's. They think it is in my liver too.

Doctors don't tell you when they are worried they just get really quiet and ask for more test. She wants more blood test a Fibrogen, PT, and PTT.

I told my doctor about the detox baths she said go for it.

I am taking Milk Thistle and Oregon Grape to help support my liver.

Sharing info cant hurt I run everything I do though my doctor.

Despite all of my health issues it is amazing how normal I look. Yet everyone here is worried even my doctors. I just keep going and looking for answers.

I'm glad you shared this information because people need to know what can happen. When my liver started swelling, I didn't know. The only thing I felt was the rib pain but I had rib pain on both sides so I still wasn't sure it was my liver. Things like this can happen even if a person is healthy.

Milk Thistle is a good product to be on for liver support. It's even better if it has NAC in it. I posted about the ingredients in the Milk Thistle I have and what each one does for the liver.

I hope you can figure this all out soon. Make sure your doctor keeps checking your liver enzymes. We only have one liver and we need it to be healthy to get through this disease.

I found out from my pain mngmt dr that too much Tylenol can cause liver pain.... it was very true for me.... and I wound up on the bedroom floor holding my rt side screaming/crying and yelling "I'd rather be giving birth to 10 babies in a row." When the drs ask for pain level on a scale of 0 - 10, that was a 10!. The more pain I was in, the more Tylenol I took, plus I was on Darvocet which has a lot of Tylenol in it. So I went off all Tylenol for several months... now I take it maybe once in the daytime and once at night... and no Darvocet. I can't take aspirin due to the coumadin on now on as a result of my PICC line and my increased BP, etc., etc., etc. Seems it's always one giant messy ball of Tick diseases.

I'm back to carrying all my Rx bottles to my dr appts again.... because I can't remember them, and no, I don't want to make a list.

I almost took vicodin for pain right before I found out that my liver enzymes were high. Thank God I didn't because it has acetaminophen in it and it would probably have caused more damage. I stay away from all products with acetaminophen in it now.

I'd urge you to purchase a few bottles of activated charcoal. Taken on an empty stomach, it can assume some of the detox tasks your liver is too ill to perform right now. Take 15 caps 2x daily. Also, drink 8oz of purified water each hour. Like someone said, silymarin (in Milk Thistle) has been shown to protect the liver from some toxins. Also, about 8oz of fresh squeezed lemon juice first thing in the morning is said to help the liver detox itself. Raw garlic is another good detoxifier due to it's potent sulfur content.

One thing you may not have heard of is cold pressed caster oil packs applied directly to the liver. They do work. I've used them. Buy a yard of undyed cotton flannel, soak it in the cold pressed caster oil, wring it out, and place it on the liver. Cover with a big sheet of plastic wrap and cover that with a heating pad. Once you feel the heat on your skin (through the cotton flannel), keep it on for 1.5 hours. It is said that cold pressed caster oil used in this fashion can draw accumulated toxins from your liver as deeply as 4 inches. You should be doing this everyday until your tenderness totally subsides. Wash your flannel thoroughly after each use to avoid recontaminating yourself.

You really need to consider unitizing all of these methods since your liver is so ill right now. And NO antibiotics right now.

Great post Sulma. I wish I had known about the castor oil when my liver was bothering me.

Yogamom,

Are you still on antibiotics? I sure hope not.

Thank you Sulma

I have done the lemon drink before I can start that again. I felt really good when I was doing that. I knew it was to detox but it did not occur to me that it would help my liver. Sometimes you need someone to point out the obvious. I am still learning. Thank you.
My dentist told me to make sure to brush my teeth after so the lemon so not damage the enamel on my teeth.

I am taking Milk Thistle.

I am allergic to sulfur but do not have a notable reaction to garlic but I have never tried it raw.

I will try the cold pressed caster oil packs. I have heard of them and talked to my doc about them but have not tried them yet. Sometimes she talks about so much I forget some of the things she tells me. I need to take a note book when I go in. My brain is so foggy lately I have found myself forgetting what I am doing. Lucky for me I have my kids are always willing to remind me.

Cajungrl;

I am on samento 3 drops 3x a day. I have not been taking antibiotics.

my liver is not happy today. No time like the present to get into major detox mode.

Thank you both,

That's very likely a result of your overloaded liver. You've got a lot of junk backed up into your bloodstream and it's interfering with neuronal functioning. Please send someone out to your local herb shop for a few bottles of activated charcoal. Taken on an empty stomach it can absorb a prodigious amount of ammonia, which is one of those toxins causing your fog. It can provide a noticeable reduction in the fog within just a few hours. The charcoal will also accelerate the rate at which your liver can recover b/c it will decrease some of the demand on it. The charcoal is dirt cheap and very effective.

Make sure you drink plenty of water with that charcoal - it can be constipating...

Also, to counter sulfur intolerance/allergy, Vitamin B12 can be very helpful, as can Molybdenum, Zinc, Iron, and Magnesium. These nutrients are needed for the metabolism of certain sulfur compounds (sulfur amino acids, sulfites, etc.) and lack of these nutrients (or excess of copper, and there are some medications that can contribute to depletion of these nutrients) can lead to sensitivity to sulfur.

Thanks for the reminder about the castor oil packs, maybe I should be doing that for my liver too (I have fatty liver secondary to TPN/IV nutrition... it's from the sugar and amino acids, not the vitamins).

Take care,

Razzle,

Can't Methyl B-12 cause worsening symptoms of mercury toxicity? I'm not sure if I'm right on about that. I forgot what my doctor said and I can't find it anywhere online. Can't it bind to the mercury?

Traveler,

My phone has a recorder on it too and I was allowed to record my first visit with my new doctor, so I did. When my husband and I tried to listen to it, because there is so much information on the first visit, it wouldn't play. It looked like it had recorded, but didn't play!! I was so upset. My husband and I kept trying to remember everything that was said. I'd remember things days later, lol, but it was just impossible to remember it all. I say that if you can record your first visit, DO IT! lol.

Oh, and make sure you "test" your recorder out before you use it, haha.

I love the idea of recording the visit with the doc.

I went in to see my doc. My liver was looking and feeling much better.

I have had a problem with swelling under my collar bone. It almost feels like I have extra bones there the lumps are so hard. My collar bone has been displaced for about 2 months due to this swelling. During kiatsu they worked on the area between my shoulder blades and the lumps that have developed under my collar bone disappeared. Then came back 3 days later.

When I went to my doc and worked on the area between my shoulder blades with acupuncture. Thinking it might have the same reaction. It did not. I started have trouble with my breathing. So we did the front. Wow that made a difference. Breathing was back to normal

Later I went to kiatsu for more energy work and wow no pain for the first time in months!!
I think it was a combo of all 3 things. The bone is still out of place(the chiropractor will not put it back until the swelling goes down) and the lumps are still there but the pain is gone!

After all that I was wiped out for 2 days. Where is my stamina!!
