Can anyone tell me about testing for lyme cysts? I'm going in for my 2nd appt. They will be doing more blood work and also checking for co-infections this time. I've read so much about the cysts and just wondering is there a test they can do to check. My first tests were positive for lymes so I have been on doxcy for 2 months. My joints are much better but still tired so much of the time. Any other blood work anyone can think of. This doc will test for pretty much anything I want. Thanks

Hi 103,

Welcome to the forum!

I'm not sure if there is any test to check for cysts but you may want to check and see if you have any viruses. Lyme disease suppresses the immune system and in turn, causes us to pick up viruses or causes our body to re-activate a virus that wouldn't normally be activated with a healthy immune system. The viruses to check for are Epstein Barr, HHV-6, Cytomegalovirus and mycoplasma.

You may also want to have your B-12, Vitamin D levels and magnesium levels checked because these are sometimes depleted with Lyme Disease.

What co-infections are you checking for?

They have already put me on a higher dose of vit. D but not sure why. I asked them to check for as many  co-infections as they could. He did list off all that he will be testing for but I don't recall all of them. I'm just hoping if I have any they'll catch it. It sounds like where there's lymes there's co-infectons. And since I think I've had this for about 8 years I'm concerned about what else I have picked up along the  way. I do know they are running a cd-57 test and he said that should show if the abxs are working otherwise he plans to switch abx.
This doc is not an LLD but is working with one that is about an hour away. He happens to have 2 others with lymes so they are in touch with eachother. However my doc did say depending on how this set of tests comes out he may want me to see this other doc. I guess I'll know more in 7 to 10 days. I have just been reading about the cyst form and would like to beable to rule that out. Thanks for the info.
