Hi-

I'm hoping someone can give me direction. For years I've gone around in circles w/ health problems. I have Hashimoto's (thyroid disease) and since then all of my hormones have tanked including cortisol. I possibly have Addison's disease as well. I also have Celiac Disease (allergic to gluten). No treatment was helping, thus in July through Igenex I found out I have Lyme (5 positive bands) and my CD57 is 32.

Found a LLMD in Waupaca, WI. He started me on amoxicillian, then added Biaxin. I really never had any herx at all. He switched me to Doxy which made me nauseous.

Now I'm on 600mg Cefdinir and 750mg Flagyl. Honestly, it feels as though I'm not on any meds. Nothing good or bad is happening or has happened since I started the abx. I've had a few yeast infections that I was able to deal with right away.

This is so bizarre. My doc says it is great that I'm handling Flagyl so well and we need to give this combo some time.

I asked about coinfection testing and he says in his experience (he's been doing this 30 yrs) that the testing is inaccurate and essentially the treatment is the same....antibiotics.

I'm not sure what else to do at this point. Any ideas? I do exercise and infrared sauna for detoxing. Have done colonics/enemas. But with no herxing, not sure what to do.

Thank you all.

lorig,

I'm sorry that you are going through this. I have some suggestions though. Sometimes when a person does not get better or feel any kind of change on antibiotics, there could be something else going on instead. The first thing I thought of, as you mentioned above, is co-infections. Even if the tests are inaccurate, if I were you, I'd still get tested for them. Use IgeneX to test for them. With my new doctor, and my old one, they gave me a symptom list to check off symptoms of different co-infections and tested me for the ones they thought I had.

Another thing to get tested for are viruses. These viruses can make you feel just as bad as Lyme does and some of their symptoms are very close to Lyme Disease. Ask to be tested for Epstein Barr virus, Cytomegalovirus, Mycoplasma, HHV-6 and parvo virus. I think this is it. If I think of something else, I'll post it here.

Thank you for your reply.

I was planning on going through Igenex again, but like I said, I've brought this up to him a few different times so I'm not sure he's willing. Maybe when I talk to him in January and tell him again there is really no change, he'll be open.

Is there a list somewhere of symptoms of co-infections so I could approach my doc with which ones I think we should test for? Since I have these other autoimmune diseases, all the symptoms overlap. Not sure what is from lyme or the others. So frustrating...

I know I've been tested for a few viruses like Epstein Barr, but not the others. Are those just blood tests he can order? What is the treatment for viruses?

Thank you for the help!!
