Looks like I'm going to need to change doctors sooner than I thought...I received some names  from Ticker for LLMD's in WI, and it looks like the closest one for me is Dr M. in Fon Du Lac.  This is really far for me, so I don't want to start with someone who will want me to come back monthly, etc.  Is anyone familiar?  Has anyone had good luck with him?  As above, wondering if he's one who requires frequent appointments??

Thanks for any and all help!

Usually, an out of state doctor works with your primary so you don't have to go back that often. Why don't you call the office and ask them. That way you're prepared.

Not sure I get that...everyone here says conventional doctors won't treat beyond one month and I haven't seen anyone post about this before (although I haven't been on all that long). Why would they (primary conventional doctor) work with a doctor who is treating you for something they don't believe in or believe in the treatment anyway? I already called my primary doctor's office with my Igenex lab results shortly after I received the diagnosis to see if he'd treat me so insurance would cover it. I was told he'd treat me IF I had Lyme's, but he read the lab results as negative (one positive band and 2 other Lyme specific bands indeterminate) and said he wouldn't treat me for this at all. When asked how he would treat Lyme's that someone has had for several years, I was told one month of antibiotics. He put in my records that he strongly discouraged me, although I have Lyme's symptoms (2 previous negative Elisa tests).

I don't recall others here saying their primary doctor has anything to do with the Lyme's treatment at all...this is all so confusing! I did call another LLMD who is closer to me, but he required monthy visits and lab tests - all cash only. I'm just seeking opinions about the doctor from other patients before making an appointment. I haven't had that great of luck with doctors, and it ticks me off to find out AFTER I've started going to someone that others were not happy with the doctor or that it's a dead end. I doubt his office will tell me this...those initial visits are so costly and if it doesn't work out, that means I have to start over for the 3rd time.

Thanks.

Hi Tala,

Is your current LLMD or the one you're going to see out of state? You said that the doctor referal that you got from Ticker was far. Maybe I misunderstood?

For example: My LLMD is in Florida and I am in Louisiana. I have to have a primary doctor here in Louisiana that is willing to follow my LLMD's instructions. My primary will have to do everything my LLMD in florida tells her to do and I don't have to see him as much. But, you have to find a primary willing to do this. If you're current primary doesn't believe you have Lyme, then it won't work.

Did I explain things better now?

I saw Dr. M @ Fox Valley he to is out of pocket. And cannot tell you ever what your ins. will cover. They make you pay upfront then reinburse you after they receive money from your Ins. so bring credit card.
I will tell you he is a great doctor! He will listen to you! He will review your records and spend quality time with you!
I will worn you! He is a big naturalist. and they sell suppliments and like you to take them. I just tell them I buy from my health hut do get discounts.
I would see him with your results. If he requests other blood work tell the nurse you will have all requested tests done by your primary and fax back to Dr. M. That way you know your ins. will pay. They have know problem with that. Just tell the nurse at the end when they try to sell you the suplliments not Dr. M during your vist with him.
My sister has lymes and see's him also. She has been happy. I would talk to him if you make your way into WI. Please note: It took 7 weeks before I could get in to see him.
One other note: Make sure you have a CD57 test done before you see him and bring results. Or at the very least have them do it. I'm sure he will demand it before he treats you with the current results you have from Igenx.

CajunGirl, yes thank you! And, good to know. I never would have thought of doing that. I was lucky with the one I had (only 1.5 hour drive) that she didn't require that I come in very often and was willing to discuss on the phone (at least her nurse would). She's retiring, so I have no choice now.

Painsnbody, thank you very much for the information, I really appreciate it! I did just get the CD57 test done and still waiting for results. I'm used to the cash only thing, unfortunately! Good to know he'll at least let you buy your supplements elsewhere, too. I'm already on quite a few supplements from my current doctor, so I'm good with the naturalist part. Again, thank you, you were very helpful!

Hi Tala3,
I also see Dr.M
like painsnbody said, he is big into supplements, but also treats with ABX. He does phone consults, and is willing to work with a pcp. There is also Dr.H in Waupaca WI he charges much less for office visits. Dr.H uses minimal supplements and more ABX, and b12 shots. If you would like his info. also, let me know.

Best wishes to you

Cheezhead,
Thank you, I appreciate the information! I think I will pursue with Dr. M. or at least give his office a call. Waupaca would be even further for me, although I am somewhat familiar with that area. If I decide at some point later to look into Dr. H, I may contact you for the info, if you don't mind. I'm comfortable with the naturalist/supplements part, and from what I've been reading, that's really important to get better.
