A "herx" is a Jarisch- Herxheimer reaction. It was first observed in the treatment of syphilis but they've since seen it happen in other diseases as well, including Lyme of course. After antibiotics are given to kill the infection, the deaths of the invading bacteria release toxins into your system, temporarily
making you feel worse! But it's just temporary and it shows that the nasty little critters are dying so it's a GOOD thing!
