So I just stepped up my time in the sauna. I purchaed a 2 person infarad sauna in Sept and used it every now and again, but this past month, in order to detox more, stepped it up and go in every other day. Normally I would do about 15 minutes as I would start to get dizzy (normal for me). Anyway, I thought it was working pretty well as I was feeling good most of the month. Well, 2 days ago I stepped it up to 1/2 hour in the sauna followed by a 1/2 hour detox bath (probably not the best idea). Needless to say, I feel awful today. I believe it is from detoxing so much and wondered if anyone else experienced this from detoxing?

I am used to lyme, but fairly new to detoxing. I am huge on exercise as a treatment and "cure" for keeping lyme at bay, but farily new to detoxing on a regular basis in a sauna. I do detox baths 3 times a week and have for years.

Is this a normal reaction to detoxing in the suana and how long should I expect these reactions from the sauna? Wonder if I should continue at 1/2 hour every other day or go back to doing 15 minutes and not have such bad reactions afterwards.

Hi Jeminij!
I will get migraines (more of them, anyway!) if I try to do too much detoxing at any one time. This is what kept me going so very slowly with my detoxing for a bit - and all I was doing was the detox bathes.

I had to start off with only 1 detox bath (or foot soak) per week! I am now at the stage where I can do three a week. I feel much better after starting my detoxes, but do have a ways to go still.

I re-learned the old adage - slow & steady wins the race!!

Thanks. I think I did too much. I am used to the baths, but probably shouldn't have done both on the same day for so long. In a way, I thought it would be good to detox a lot, but the outcome afterwards doesn't seem to be a good one. I want to build up to doing the sauna 1/2 hour every day, but I think I have to ease into it as well and take it slow too.

I did the same thing as you and stayed in a little longer one night. I felt horrible and was thinking really hard about going to the hospital. I think it drained me of all of my electrolytes. It's very important to drink lots of water before and after. Drinking pedialyte can't hurt either.

If I were you, I'd cut back a little. Maybe go down just a bit and work your way back up slowly.

Thanks. It really did me in so I think I will go back to 15 minutes for now. I drink water while I'm in there, but since I have a little one I have pedialyte always on hand too so that's an option. Normally I don't have much repsonse afterwards so that's why I went in longer this time, but I learned my lesson.

I know how you feel. I felt horrible the entire night. I felt a little better the next day though but it was scary.

Who knew is could have such an outcome on your body? I am just now feeling better, but it was scary, yes. That night I felt ok, but the next day was like boom! I wanted to to go the hospital too, but I knew it would pass eventually.

boy I've overdone it with the sauna more than once!

You want to make sure you are very well hydrated and that you are supplementing your electrolytes because you can indeed end up feeling like you need a trip to the ER otherwise. Also if you feel even a tiny touch of nausea setting in while you're inside, get out immediately. That's a sign of overheating.

Another thing I suspect is that it's possible that some of us could be mobilizing more toxins from tissues than we succeed in sweating out during our session, therefore the net amount of circulating neurotoxins could be higher when we come out than it was when we went in.

Remember a lot of these toxins our body has tucked into various tissues to protect itself as much as possible from their damaging effects, but sauna (particularly infrared) could be stimulating mobilization of some of those stored toxins. An illustration: you go into the sauna with a serum toxin load of "10", mobilize "4" from the deep penetration of the infrared heat, but only sweat out a "2", so you come out with a "12" circulating. Now you feel even worse. (bear in mindt I'm just hypothesizing here)

I have to admit I still don't respect sauna as much as I should. I still goof up with it and sometimes end up feeling worse. It's a really powerful bit of medicine in our arsenal, but like any truly effective medicine, it can bite you if used improperly.

I am still feeling sick from spending too long in the sauna. I wish I knew I would feel this bad ahead of time and I may have cut down the time. I tend to always over do it thinking I am doing more good than not, but I think slow and steady wins the race in this case and the problem with me is I don't sweat a lot. never have so I thought in order for it to work I would have to stay in long enough to actually start sweating which usually takes up to 15 minutes just to break a tiny sweat and even after 30 minutes I only sweat a little at 130 degrees. I don't think I am a good detoxer in that way.

Wow..now I am wondering if I should invest in that Infrared Sauna? Is it going to do more harm then good? I am new to this site, but have a couple years of living with CLD. I have not tried the de-tox bath, does the foot bath really help? How often? What is the proper mixture for the foot bath?
Sorry for all of the questions? But I can use all the help I can get.
Thanks, Dee
