humf, what was there reason for giving you hydrocortisone? was it your LYME doc?

is it because you are burning out from treatment> or you were burnt out before treatment.

do you know what your ACTH levels are. what blood work made them descide to give you steroids while trying to treat lyme.

were you EVER on steroids before. do you have an autoimmune disease seperate from lyme or was it possible caused by lyme. how many MG and how long did they thing you need it.

KO,

How many mg's are you on? I was just prescribed 10mg. I've read on many Lyme forums where people are taking hydrocortisone for Adrenal Faitigue.

Bucci,  I did a saliva test for bio-identical HRT and it showed low cortisol level among other things.  It is not my lyme doctor ( I am flying solo right now).

I think it is lyme related, but who can say for sure.

I don't think I ever had a ACTH done, not sure what it's for.  He is aware of my lyme, I decided to tell him my whole history, but he is not a lyme doctor.

The only steroids I've ever been on was when I was pregnant I was on Prednisone my 1st trimester, and I had a cortisone shot for tennis elbow that really seemed to set off my lyme (I didn't know I had lyme at the time).

I am on 5mg 2x/day.

CG,  Have you heard of any neg effects?  I want to treat the Adrenal Fatigue, but I don't want to do it at the expense of making the LD worse.  I really wanted to see if the HRT and Hydrocortisone and supp's make a difference in how I feel.  I know that not all of this is from the lyme and I am just trying to sort it out.  I'm hoping to be able to feel somewhat better than I feel right now.

Hi KO,

I asked my docs about the low dose of hydorcortisone and questioned them about taking it because of the lyme/coinfections. I was worried about taking it. They said that if the dose is below 12 mg, then it won't shut down the adrenals and may give them a lilttle rest by taking some of the load off of them for awhile. Then hopefully, they will "come back". At first they said they would do it for a couple months or so, but it ended up being more like 6 or 7. I never noticed much difference. I was disappointed. I no longer take it but the naturopath still has me take natural supplements off and on.

Best wishes, bablymers mom

Thanks Bablymers,  I feel better hearing what your doctor had to say about that.  I am hoping
this makes a difference in how I feel.  Only time will tell.

I definitely felt better with the HRT especially after htsyerectomy and the cortisone felt way better. did not even know I hac lyme at the time. so now I am on prednisone for 2 yrs and just found ouy about the lyme and the lyme docs are making big deal about prednisone, but I can'y just stop it if you need it you need it and who know what caused adrenal exhaustion.

I'm no doctor ...i'm just telling you what the 3 lyme docs told me but non of them offered solutin to getting off of it. hey just trying to deal with lyme..

my main thing now is keeping my liver strong and myfavorite thing is when I get IV gluthione IV.

it all gonna work out

Hey KO,

How are you feeling so far? I still haven't started mine yet because I have my days and nights mixed up and I'm supposed to take it in the morning.

I haven't heard of any negative effects on low dose hydrocortisone, but that doesn't mean that there isn't any. Just keep an eye out for any changes. I don't think you have anything to worry about though.

My primary doesn't understand the low dose because she doesn't understand Lyme and thinks I won't see much of a difference. I guess we'll see. She first wanted to put me on prednisone and I refused.

Thanks everyone for the replys!

CG, I'm the same way too, my Cortisol is low in am and high at bedtime.  Hopefully this will correct the problem.

KO,

I hope it helps you. I feel alot better in the evening but I'm wide awake and cannot sleep, lol. I know it has to be my cortisol. I don't remember, but did you do a blood test for cortisol or the mouth swab?

CG,  I did the saliva test where you take 4 different samples timed from morning to bedtime and that showed the low cortisol in am and high at night the reverse of what it should be.  I think it is making a difference because when I threw it up yesterday my stomach didn't feel good enough to take the 2nd dose and I was wide awake at bedtime with all kinds of things running thru my head.  So we will see, I'm back on my schedule today.  KO

KO,

Keep me updated please:) Oh, and I said mouth swab but I meant saliva testing. I don't know where my brain has been lately. I'm having trouble getting doctor's here to do that test for me. Did your primary do it or did an ND do it?

CG,  It was the doctor that I am going to for the Bio-identical HRT.  I found him through a compounding pharmacy near me.  Actually, the pharmacist there does consults for the HRT if you don't doctor is clueless and was going to do the saliva test.  They could probably tell you what doctor/doctors near you do the testing.

CG, I forgot to ask you about your comment on another post, do you have a link for what you read about the NAC bursting cysts?
Thanks, KO
