Hi All,

I am curious ... I would like to know more about everyones neurological symptoms that you think you contracted with the lyme disease... I experience a lot of lightheadedness and lately feeling faint... knock on wood never fainted although feeling as though I would if I don't sit down. So my main question besides all the symptoms does Lyme cause a ""foggy / lightheadedness "???

Hi VStrength,

I have been dealing with lyme for about ten months now and mainly have neurological issues which include dizziness and nausea. I feel disoriented and have some balance problems. My brain fog make it difficult for me to organize or put things in order. I thought that the dizziness was caused by a medication that I had been taking but it has persisted even after stopping that med. Do you always feel lightheaded or just at certain times of the day?

Hope your feeling better soon.

Hi There,

I have been dealing with Lyme for the past NINE months... one month behind you..lol... I think my lightheadedness is only getting worse... what type of meds were you on for lyme? I have been on and off doxy and now I may start the iv treatment...

I also have slight chest pain and my anxiety has increased tremendously ever since i have been diagnosed... I have headaches but not all the time - the only main prob. for me is the light headedness and brain fog...

I was taking Gabapentin for the numbness that I experience over most of my body. It did help lessen the intensity for a while and then stopped working so I decided to discontinued it. I suspect that I may suffer from the lyme co-infection Babesia that I think is causing some of my neurological problems. CajunGrl first pointed out the possibility to me in my first post on this forum.

When I first got sick last June, I suffered from flu like symtoms, high fever, chills and night sweats. Looking back at my initial symptoms they do tend to point to the co-infection Babesia. What were your initial symptoms?

I haven't taken any antibiotics since November.

My medications since getting sick include:
Cipro, Doxycyline, Amoxicilin, IV-Rocephin

My lightheadedness/feeling faint got a lot worse when I started treatment. I'd feel like I was going to fain when i just bent over. It's taken a while, but it is starting to get better. It was definitely a Lyme symptom for me.

In my case, my doctor actualy thought that Lyme had caused POTS/Dysautonomia for me. That gives me problems with lightheadedness, blood pressure, etc.

Anyway, it is now mostly gone. It comes back when I switch medications, but it is overall a lot better.

Hi VStrength,

I am just wondering if you feel faint when you try to stand up?

Hi VStrength,
Yes, Tick-borne infections can definitely cause light-headedness & brain fog. It would most likely help you if you would read (or re-read) the thread "New to Lyme? Start here" as there are a couple of real good descriptions of the sx that TBI's can cause.

I was infected sometime in my very early childhood, and the neuro issues have plagued me throughout my life. The light-headedness & brain fog have gotten to the point where I really couldn't function on a daily basis. It has gotten so bad at times, that I started passing out, but that quit before I really hurt myself. Please be careful if you are experiencing the light-headedness.

The brain fog is not a good feeling either for me. It really does prevent me from doing basically anything on days when it is bad. I believe this is due to ammonia in the brain (at least for me), caused from die off - I believe. I do the detox bathes, as they really help me with the brain fog & light-headedness, not to mentions a lot of my pain issues.

Everyone experiencing light-headedness should be extremely careful about getting up out of a chair, or off the bed & even just bending over!!

I do not experience light headedness except very occasionally. But my neuro issues are bad -- at least to a degree that is very hard on me. I have no memory. I can have a conversation w/ one of my kids on the phone one evening and totally forget it the next. I search and search my memory and embarrassingly have to ask them about it. If they remind me, then I will remember.

A few times while driving I have had a very scary totally confused feeling and not know where I am (like driving home from work!). Usually resolves w/in seconds tho. But last week, I went to the Dr w/ my daughter (separately) and at a well known intersection (like the MALL), I had to pull off and sit for nearly 5 minutes before I could orient my location and which direction I needed to go. (I had to go into the convenience store and ask).

THAT was about the worst, because I KNEW that I knew where I was, but could not even place my mind on it -- it just felt totally LOST. I could not even think it thru)

I lose stuff all the time, everywhere. Some of it is never found. I can lose something without leaving an area. I make mistakes at work that I have no recollection of making. And there are too many times that my mind goes blank at work and I cannot even figure out what I am trying to do. I guess it is the 'fog'.

And I have the typical word loss, loss of thought mid sentence, unbearable depression that hits suddenly, and bad anxiety problems.

I believe that if this stuff happens, then light headedness surely can too. But w/ fainting and light headedness, you could get hurt easily. I don't know the answer for this.

Vstrength, I also have mild chest pain and increased anxiety.

Funny- I used to think all my lightheadedness and disoriented feelings were form hormones.
BUt now I see it had nothing to do with that. I have had problems when crouched down like when
gardening and when I get up everything starts to go black and I lose my hearing until I either
bend my head over and breath or crouch back down and get up slowly then and it all comes
back. Anyone ever have this?
Recently though I get a drop in energy and feel like I can pass out. I sit down and I'm ok after a while. BUt this hits out of nowhere.
I'v ebeen out of work for weeks now because it got so severe wound up in the ER. I'm feeling much better now.
I'm just so afraid to go back to work as I have a long drive and if this happens again it will be difficult for me
to get back home. Its making me afraid to go out alone and do anything!
I'm hoping the rest over the past few weeks has helped build up my adrenals again and hopefully I am stronger now.
Its just such a scary way to live. I feel I may become agoraphobic. I'm just afraid to venture too far from home now.

Vstrength,

I'm in the lightheaded with tons of anxiety boat too. Like I've had a couple glasses of wine. And then sometimes randomly I will feel like I am definatley going to have a heart attack or stroke. I get palpitations and strange aches in my brain.

My LLMD says that anxiety as a primary symptom is not common. But, if you're familiar with Brian Fallon (runs the Columbia U. Lyme center) you can find various articles on the subject.

Have you improved at all with treatment?

If you only get lightheaded when going from sitting to standing...it could be a blood pressure issue.

Orthostatic hypotension can be caused by Lyme. It is an adrenal/blood pressure issue.

It could also be anemia. I would get both your blood pressure and an anemia test done.
