Doctors (rheumy and gp) treating my UTI with Cipro. Took first dose Tuesday. Felt much better yesterday. But today I'm miserable! Joints aching all over the place! Stiff. Bad headache. Exhausted. Slept or just laid around all day. Why does this happen everytime I take an antibiotic. If I have Lupus then antibiotics cause me to flare, but I haven't heard of any Lupies doing that. If it's Lyme, then it could be a herxheimer rxn? Don't know since I haven't been diagnosed...Think I'm gonna send my hubby out to buy the stuff for a detox. Gonna do that everyday while I'm on the antibiotic. What can it hurt, right?

What do you guys do when you have to take antibiotics? I'll try most anything to feel better.

Hi jesimae,

I am so sorry that you are feeling like crud. When we take antibiotics, we prepeare to feel bad and do alot of detoxing. My Lyme doctor actually gave me a clinical diagnosis after I told him that I reacted the way you just discribed. I too was on a high dose of antibiotics for a UTI. The detoxing idea sounds like a good plan. Also, take some probitics so you don't tear your stomach up. Antibitics get rid of the good bacteria along with the bad which makes your stomach and gut very unbalanced.

Thanks, Cajun Girl! I'm taking acidophilus. I keep some in the fridge for my family in case one of us is on antibiotics. It works really well. Will I notice a difference right away when I start detox or does it take a while?

Jessica,

Yes, do the detox bath. The recipe is on the "New to Lyme...Start here" thread on the top of the page. It's a great detox remedy.

Like CajunGrl said, probiotics are a must. Take them first thing in the am and right before bed, but make sure it's two or more hours apart from your abx.

Were you able to locate a LLMD? Hope you get an appt with one soon!

It just depends on your toxin load and how much actually comes out when you detox. You may notice a difference and feel a little better your first time, but you should start with at least three detox baths a week, or more, if you can.

Wow! 3 per day? My skin is very dry anyway. Will that make it worse? And yes, Gary, I'm making an appt with a LLMD in Denver. I'll let u know when. I'm sure I'll have lots to ask between now and then-hehe.

Thanks to both of you for all your help!

It's likely you wouldn't have any reaction to antibiotics if you weren't infected. Once I got well I had to go to the ER for a kidney infection. I was given IV Cipro. I was very afraid that I would herx from it even thought I was well from Lyme Disease at the time. I had no reaction at all when years prior even one pill would send me into a severe herx.

I would continue to look for a Dr who can diagnose you. I was also diagnosed based on my symptoms alone because I tested negative twice. It wasn't until I had a western blot that I tested positive but I was already on treatment.

It is so confusing and frustrating.  I am feeling so lousy but seem to be getting worse.  Just started new antibiotic so who knows.  HOwever, I was so thinking I was herxing on the last antibiotic but was getting worse all along.  I am detoxing and still feel lousy.  Trying to be patient cause I did have some good days a few weeks ago so hoping they are coming again soon.

I am also feeling lousy on antibiotics. Waiting for the LLMD to return my call to discuss discontinuing the Zithromax. I have been getting progressively worse on antibiotics over the past two weeks. I don't think detoxing is going to solve my problem. I want to get better, however I don't want to die trying.

betterhealth, detox baths are no "cure-all" but if you are having excessive die off of lyme toxins you need to get them out of your body. The detox baths are excellent for this. I would not underestimate the benefits of a detox bath, especially if your body is full of lyme toxins from the zithromax.

In fact, today I'm not feeling so great myself, so I'm going to go take a walk then I plan to go straight to the tub and take a detox bath. It's definitely helped me.
