You are probably herxing. A sauna can make you herx because it pulls the toxins out of your body. You probably stayed in too long and should take it slow next time. Stay in half the time you stayed this last time and slowly increase. Are you drinking water before and after your sauna session? Drinking electrolytes like pedialyte helps too.

I think half hour is too long in the sauna. I have an infared sauna in my house that I use, but I usually only do about 15 minutes. If I stay in too long I feel horrible. If you are just starting out, I would do less time and work your way up.

Hi CMRB,

Not sure what is going on from your reaction to the sauna.  It could be herxing or you simply have an overload of toxins in your body.  I use an infrared sauna at home and I feel great when I get out after 30 or 40 minutes.  I do drink lots of water during my "session" and as Cajun said, electrolytes are important too.

There is a test that Dr. Jernigan talks about to see if you have an overload of toxins:

"You can look closely at the iris (colored part of the eyes) in the mirror and tell how well your skin is eliminating.   If you can see a darker ring around the very most outer edge of the iris then you have what is called a scurf ring.

Seeing a scurf ring always means that your skin is not eliminating toxins well, and it is being reflected on the iris of the eye. It is not a disease of the eye, but simply a reflex sign of an overload of toxins at the level of the skin. You can observe your eye and watch it improve as you progress with your detox protocol."

This is from his link called Inexpensive Treatments:

http://abc.eznettools.net/jernigannutraceuticals/inexpensive_treatments.html

I would only stay in the sauna for 10 to 15 minutes and build up to it or maybe do lots of detox baths before even trying the sauna.  Is it an infrared sauna?

Hope this helps!  Denise

It is just a regular dry sauna, there is a place with infrared saunas I'm going 2 start going to regularily, I will cut the time in hAlf for now though. The scurf ring is interesting, I definitely have one. It'll b interesting to see if it changes through my detoxing. I'm going to go see if my local chapters or health stores have dr jernigans book if not I'll order it online. So much to do and so little energy, I feel mostly bad for my twins that I can't pick them up as much and play like we used to. CAn't wait to see an improvment. Thanks 4 the help

Yes, the Scurf Ring is very interesting..  Sounds like your body is overloaded with toxins..  the Detox baths do wonders as well as the dry skin brushing and foot baths..   It's good that you are going to cut your time in half in the sauna and using an infrared sauna is a good idea.

What is your diet like?  Reason I ask is that diet plays a role in getting better too.   If you are going to order Dr. J's book, the soft cover is less money compared to the hardcover.

Yes, fatigue is one of the most common symptoms of lyme.  Are you able to exercise at all?   When I was really sick I could not exercise..  I could hardly get out of bed!  After following Dr. J's protocol I was able to start exercising within 1 month which shocked me!  That borrelogen did wonders for me as well as his neuro-antitox formula.

You will see improvements, just keep on detoxing..  You will be able to play with your twins like you used to...  Sounds like you are on the right track!!  yeah

Deejavu,

I saw something similiar not long ago on TV. That is very interesting. I don't understand exactly where to look though? My first LLMD thought I had a toxin buildup.

my diet is a work in progress...i havent been eating sugar at all which is a first for me in my life, working on cutting out bread and cutting down on carbs. i eat OK only because i am obsessed with what my kids eat trying to make sure they eat fresh fruits and vegetables everyday etc. but from what ive read cutting out sugar and carbs is a good approach? unfortunately i havent exercised since january it has been way too painful with the arthritis but if i could suck it up im sure there is SOMETHING i could manage doing, i know it would help. thanks for the encouragement, good to know im on the right track!

just saw this post, looked in the mirror and I def. have a dark ring around my eye color. I never even knew to look for that. Then I looked it up online and that was true for me. I don't detox well at all. I barely sweat when I exercise or even in the sauna or detox bath. It takes me a while to work up a sweat so no wonder I have some days where I feel the toxic overload.

My fiance and daughter both sweat so much during their sleep and I think it is to detox and I am as dry as a cucumber. Now I am going to be checking my eyes all the time. lol.

I didn't even think of it that way, I am the same I never sweat like u said it takes a while even while exercising to build up a sweat... Whereas my boyfriend will randomly wake up just completely drenched, I'll have to take a look at his eyes!

You are not sweating because you are toxic. Its was EI docs call non-sweaters. As soon as you start to sweat on a regular basis, you will start to feel much better as the toxic load is eliminated. Be well...

Back a couple years ago after having my twins, i was doing bikram yoga (hot yoga). even tho i was in the midst of caring for five month old twins i had never felt better or had more energy, and the more i learn the more it makes sense, i could of literally filled a bucket with my sweat! im not one for spandex but in this class not only did i wear it but i donned the spandex booty shorts despite post pardom flab lol anything more and it would of just been like wearing a wet towel. even though i would have to severly modify the poses, ive been thinking of going back, it was great.
