If anyone here takes it, I am interested to know if it has helped you and if it has also helped your inflammation? It states that it works well for arthritis and that's why I am interested in it. I just started medication for arthritis two weeks ago and it has not started giving me relief yet, so I'm just curious if I could take Tumeric until my medication kicks in. I also noticed that it can affect the liver and am a little worried about that. Any suggestions?

Hi Cajungirl
I have tried Turmeric in capsule form from GNC. What I have heard is that you need about 500 mg of curcuminoids which is the active compound in Turmeric to enter your bloodstream to be effective and it only has a life of 2-3 hours. It is also known that when taken orally that the digestion process destroys most of the curcuminoids but that 25 percent enters the bloodstream. This means for the 500 mg capsules I have, only about 25 percent or 125 mg enter my bloodstream, meaning I have to take four 500mg capsules to get any effect and I have to do this every 2-3 hours. I think the key is to buy a brand whose capsule gets past you stomach and acid breakdown process and then gets digested in the small intestine. I think life extension may have such a product if I recall, but would need to check that. The alternative of taking 20 capsules a day sounds inconvenient and expensive. I am not using it now, but may try it again in the future. If you try it, I would definitely like to hear your experience.

I have heard to increase turmeric's effect- take it with black pepper. Maybe ginger also. Hope it works for you.

Hey Cajun Girl,

maybe try to keep tumeric n your diet instead of the pills. All curry type dishes have tumeric.

there are tumeric pills made by some companies that have other herbs or ingredients. I have hard time now with any liver herbs.

but ayurvedic cooking is the one type that I don't get belly ache from. I have even had tumeric tea. In India it is the number one root remedy.. you know it grows like ginger and I even saw turquoise colored. very powerful healing for all kinds of conditions.
