Hi everyone,
I know this is off topic, but I am looking for some help. I have had the stomach flu for the past 7 days. Severe. Went to the ER yesterday for IV fluids. Said it is likely a virus. I have had a stomach bug before but never for this long. My 2 year old daughter had it last week for about 4 days so that is why I assume that is what I have.
My question: I know our immune systems are compromised from the lyme, but has anyone else had a stomach virus this bad for this long? I feel like I am the only one and I can't seem to get better and haven't been able to eat for over a week and barely able to drink anything or keep it in me for that matter.
It seems like one illness after another this summer. I have pretty much had enough for a lifetime now.

Yes, I've had a stomach flu that long, and I get everything that anybody has and get harder than anyone else.

Keep resting, boosting your immune system and try to get your electrolytes back in balance, as that can can cause the very symptoms you mention. Don't forget your probiotics -- just suck on the capsules if you can't keep a glass of water down to wash them down

Feel better!

oh thank you. It makes me feel better to hear that. I too get everything (especially from my toddler) and get it harder than most. We all just had a stomach flu in May, regular flu in June, but never had it this bad for this long so I of course (from my lyme days of not knowing) always think something worse is going on.

Trying to keep down gatorade. That's about all I can handle right now.

Oh Jeminij!!!
I am soooo sorry to hear that you have the flu!! UGH! If you have any "Pedialite", that would be really good for you right now.
I hope you start to feel better soon!!

Yes, sugar is said to make it worse, but the Dr. told me to drink gatorade, but I do have pedialite from my daughter so I am drinking that too. Thankfully I got some Zofran and it is helping some. Hopefully I'll be able to eat again in a few days and really hoping it doesn't set off any lyme symptoms and I can recover and get back to normal here.

When I had food poisoning, my doctor recommended Gatorade G4, which is their low calorie (low sugar) version. You could probably use the calories, but if you can't tolerate the sugar, that might be something to look into. You could use some calories if you can't eat anything, but sugar may cause a yeast overgrowth. You can also try chicken broth, if you tolerate that. That will give you some fluids and some electrolytes (salts). You may want to dilute the broth or get one of the low sodium kinds if the salt is too much.

Yes, Lymies have suppressed immune systems, which makes us get hit harder by anything going around. I have been fortunate enough to avoid most things. On top of that, certain antibiotics can actually weaken your immune system. So, the very thing helping to fight a disease is actually making you more susceptible to getting sick! Fun, isn't it?

It's been one thing after another and I blame it all on my 2 year old. ha ha. She picks up everything from all the other little kids and of course I end up getting it and get hit hard so I have been sick now in April, May, June and this one is especially bad in July. Can't wait to see what's next.

I am used to lyme sick, but all this other stuff takes some getting used to. I suppose it is only going to get worse as she gets older and eventually heads off to school. Ugh! Anyone have a bubble I can borrow?
