Would some of you veterans of Lyme be able to post *in brief* what you have seen in terms of pluses/minuses of Cowden's vs Jernigan's philosophies and approaches? And I truly ask about personal experiences/readings on these (just a quick disclaimer in case someone thinks i will take responses as...well, endorsements or whatever)....or perhaps do some of you combine the methods? I have heard some wonderful details about Jerigan, but little about Cowden...
Thank you in advance...

Still mulling...

Hi again seekingbalance,

I suggest reading both Cowden's protocol and buying Dr. Jernigan's book "Beating Lyme Disease".

Cowdens (are detox baths mentioned in this protocol, or using an infrared sauna?)  I did read about the dry skin brushing:

To buy Dr. J's book:

Also read Dr. J's site and blogs:

Hope this helps!

Thank you D.--I will read up. As I said in a different post, my doc is excellent but deemphasized detox...the Cowden was the natural choice since she uses his herbs in basis.
I see you take hormone therapy...how important has that been in your recovery? I know my hormones are probably compltetely off....as are my adrenals. (Or maybe you mention it all on the youtube....if so, never mind, I'll look at that first...)

Hi again Denise...several people referenced your journey and methods as a good starting point....is there a post out lining what you did? I may have even seen it, my memory of course fails me....

Hi seekingbalance,

To this day, I do not understand how a doctor can call themselves "lyme literate" if they do not address detoxing.   That's half the battle in getting better!   I just shake my head...

As far as what I did, it's pretty simple:  I bought Dr. J's book (at that time it was his first book which is not available anymore) and followed his "healing at  home" protocol..  I took his botanicals and detoxed.  Taking the botanicals was the easy part, it's the daily detox baths, dry skin brushing, detox foot baths, coffee enema's, etc. that takes work and time..   After suffering from chronic lyme I became totally symptom free after doing Dr. J's protocol which took about 8 to 10 months (I didn't keep a log).

To this day I still detox because I believe we live in a toxic world, the air we breath, the food we eat, the products we put on our skin, cleaning products, etc.  We are surrounded by toxins everywhere!

Right now I am taking natural hormone supplements since I entered menopause (not lyme related).   I am 53 and entered full menopause about 4 months ago and was suffering from hot flashes, fatigue, and all the other wonderful symptoms that is part of menopause, yeah!   Saw a doctor that specializes in menopause, and she put me on these supplements after testing me extensively which are helping me so much, thank goodness!  Menopause is not fun!

Denise:
Thanks for posting this. I am going to try and get Dr. J's book and start home. Thanks for posting your experience--it gives us hope.

May I please ask what you are taking for menopause? My friend is taking something, not sure what I have to remember to ask her. She is paying over $1000 / mo. I am not at M yet, but I think it won't hurt me to know what the options are, just in case I need to take something in a few years--I am not that far along :(

You can PM me when you get a chance or post here so others can benefit.

Thanks for all your posts, you are helping a lot of people. Positive thinking is hard, when you feel so beat up! Thanks for the song, too! I sing it around the house and add to the tunes, it helps keep the stress down!
