I was diagnosed with Lyme 2 years ago and treated aggressively with abx. I am feeling much better physically.
The problem that has lingered is lack of concentration, extreme forgetfulness, mood swings and unreasonable anger at times.
I lost my partner and may soon lose my job because of this
The questions are: Is the Lyme still effecting me? Is it toxins? Could it be lurking bacteria? Is it neurological damage from Herxing?
Has anyone else experienced mental symptoms that hang on well after the physical symptoms are gone?

Hi-
I am only starting on my journey, so I can't speak from experience...I only remember reading that fatigue and neurological problems are the last to leave. I'll hazard a guess it may also be toxins. there may be damage, *but* science tells us our brain can recuperate wayyyy more than it was believed in the past. There I *can* mention personal experience: I had bizarre neurological sxs from methyl B12 deficiency, it all resolved with mega amounts of B12 with other supplements--phosphatidylserine, alpha lipoic acid....so my thought would be: detox and supplement with good quality vitamins and other compounds?
Some here mention the ammonia as being a bad culprit--maybe brain-specific detox, like Dr. Jernigan's formula? link: http://hansacenter.com/productinfo.html?neuro-antitox-ii-cns-pns
Perhaps veterans here can give more info...
Hope that helps!

are you thinking brain damage from herxing?? is that possible??

I am looking into biofeed back and any other brain help because I have all those same symptoms.
it is tru phospelatiel sering and coline and inosotol help a lot and q10

aren't some of the effects of low carb diet what you are experience. some people have hard time with low carb.
I go koo koo without carbs. I eat english muffin as a snack with butter and jelly. or even apple slices with peanut buttter and sometime spiruling on the peanut butter and that helps my brain. I thinkthat may be low carb???

There is a product called choline coctail from twim labs that always wakes me up but it does have gurranna in it which is a plant type caffine. it comes in a red label and a green label.. green has less sugar.

Good luck.. there is no doubt in what is left of my mind that brain chemistry is key to recovery and maintaining healthy immune system even. I try what ever I can to keep my seratonin and dopamine up. and not antidepressants. There is a type of brain therapy that helps reprogram the kinks in our brain waves I did nce in Seattle. I can't remember what it was called , of course.

Hi woodswalker,

I'm not a doctor but I would guess from my own experience what you are experiencing is toxin overload.  I suggest buying Dr. Jernigan's CNS/PNS Neuro-Antitox Formula which binds up toxins including ammonia which can cause the symptoms you are talking about.   One lady I know who went to Dr. J's clinic in Kansas (who never took any antibiotics) had so much ammonia that Dr. J. concentrated on getting the ammonia out of her brain and body before he started to treat her for lyme.   Today she has her life back after suffering for 30 years (again, she never took one antibiotic).

I can't stress enough how important detoxing is.    In the sticky thread on top called "New to Lyme?  Start Here!" there are detoxing instructions.

Get rid of the toxins and you will notice a HUGE difference!!

Hope this helps,

Denise

Im glad you posted this. My physicall symptoms are deesclating as well. I cant feel excitment and I do have a little lingering ocd. I also have had a lot more dreams when I sleep. I feel that this is good because I wasn't able to dream at all for months. I wish I could feel more of my emotions of excitment or motivation. I might try Jergans nuero supplments

Have you had your yeast levels tested? Also food allergies? Abx increases yeast in the body and eventually it gives up on fighting it. This leads to it making holes in the gut that food goes thru and viola-food allergies. This happened to me and once I addressed those two issues the neuro issues slowly went away. I went cold turkey from any food allergies I tested positive for about 3 years and then (once the yeast was also taken care of) I slowly reintroduced those foods back into my diet. It took about 3-4 years to get all the way back to eating what I used to and I still seem to have a hard time when I consume too much dairy, but even that is slowly getting better. My short term memory was basically on par with a goldfish, but after taking care of the yeast that has gone back to normal. I still make sure I write EVERYTHING down and try to stay organized. I did have late stage severe lyme and co so my neuro stuff was awful (literally forgot who/where I was one day) and I have found that I had to relearn some things-how to drive a car, and while I might know what an object was or how it worked I couldn't tell you the name of it (e.g. screwdriver). Hopefully this helps! Good luck!

YES, I agree with Deejavu...detox, cetox, detox...

Something else to consider getting a blood test for MSH, the melanocyte stimulating hormone; to see if the infections has damaged the HPA(hypothalamas pituitary axis) which is what produces MSH. MSH hormome is THE master. It CAUSES other hormonal production.

I detox LIKE CRAZY, gut issues resolved, and Im on hormone replacement therapy, and I STILL have the bouts of crying and the anger. I just hate it. I dont feel myself when it happens. My MSH is low, which means the infections have effected my HPA.

Maybe we need talk therapy also???

Good luck!
