Western blot IgG band 41+

Western blot IgM band 41+ 39 ind

I had been on abx for a month before this test, could that have effected these results which at this point mean nothing.
I am thinking I should retest. Any opinions?

I have seen on here the medications you all take and I know with my allergies to abx that I would NEVER be able to do the therapy that you guys do so am I SOL if it turns out later that I have LYME. I can tolerate amox and a couple of others but that is it. No sulfas, quinolones, tetracyclines, or others like flagyl. As symptomatic as I am I think there is a chance that Lyme is the culprit. Any input would be appreciated.

Hi Homer,

Welcome to the forum!

Very sorry for the circumstances that bring you here though!

Who did your Western Blot test...IGeneX? I ask because most labs don't report an "indeterminate" result, but apparently your report for IgM was band 41 positive, band 39 indeterminate. Is that correct?

Here is what IGeneX says about that: PRESENCE OF ONLY ONE DOUBLE STARRED BAND OR INDETERMINATE DOUBLE STARRED BANDS IN A NEGATIVE REPORT MAY INDICATE CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE. THEREFORE, WE RECOMMEND TESTING WITH ANOTHER METHOR AND/OR RETEST IN 4-6 WEEKS.

Of course, both bands 39 and 41 are "double starred" in the IGeneX report.

So yes, it sounds as though a retest is indicated here. However, I'm not a doctor, and I really think you need the advice of a good LLMD (Lyme Literate doctor). Do you have one? Whereabouts do you live?

Hi Homer!
First of all, yes - being on abx generally does comprise blood testing that is done for LD. With that being said, though - IMHO- I don't believe another blood test is warranted. Even while on abx you tested positive.

I have done some reading on this, as I never had a positive test result until afterbeing on abx for a full 12 months - although now, I am wondering if maybe I was just reinfected - again! eyes

As far as the test results themselves, band 41 really should be enough to start any treatment -
41 flagellin protein of all spirochetes; this is usually the first to appear after a Bb infection and is specific for all Borrellia
**This was copied from our sticky thread at the top of the forum titled "New to Lyme?...Start here!"**

No person can test positive for parts of a spirochete if a spirochete had never been introduced into the body. Kinda like being pregnant - there's no "well, but...." - either you are or you are not. It's so very unfortunate that even the docs who treat us sometimes don't understand this.

As far as the treatment itself for tick-borne infections - there is no "one-size-fits-most". Why not look into what is termed as "alternative medicine"?? It really is nothing more than treatment not using abx.

I use acupuncture, chinese meds & western herbs, and I don't believe I am the only one. The Chinese have not only survived, but have thrived for over 2,000 yrs. using nothing more than acupuncture & Chinese Meds! There are also those that are using Homeopathy to take them on their healing journey.

Anyway, just some things to ponder at least and some possible answers at best.

Of course I wish you the best, Homer - no matter what route you chose to follow for treatment! Please do get some treatment!
