I've come to the conclusion that Perhaps the reason the medical profession doesn't seem concerned about Lyme may be that it's not contagious.

I believe if it were contagious, they would most definitely be much more willing to test and treat the disease as quickly as possible.  After all, if they drag their feet or just send patients for more testing it just might spread and put them or even some of their loved ones at risk.

I have never dealt with such a lack of concern and poor bedside manner in my life!  It is outragious to say the least.

Actually, we just found out my husband has Lyme now. I was the first one infected, and I think he got it from me. So it IS contagious! Not air-borne of course, but it seems to pass from human to human the way syphilis does, because Lyme is related to syphilis after all. sad

wilie, I know it seems impossible but I have met more doctors who are just NOT PRESENT to anything.
They misdiagnose all kinds of stuff. The notion that they even have any real knowledge of the magnitude of the lyme EPEDEMIC is just that.... a complete delusion. Doctors are not held accountable for telling you there is nothing wrong. and most of them are too busy to be bothered learning about lyme UNTILL one of their family gets it. Most of the good doctors we have ...MD or Naturopaths had lyme them selves or their kids or they come out of areas like Conneticuit where they are protected by law now to not get sued by insurance companies for prescribing antibiotics. Most doctors pick a specialty and they punt patients off to each other.

Then there are the ones who know it is a monster to cure but have no idea of the OTHER ways it can be spread other than from the bite.

But Nasa is right...this is just like syphliss and to ME it makes perfect sense that it is sexually transmitted. At first I thought only by semen but now I realize it is not just from Man to woman ...it is same a syphliss .

I just got off the phone with a freind I haven't seen since high school. I met with her last week and took one look at her and her husband and said to myself...Wow, these two are not well. It kept bugging me. Now tonight she tells me she had a buls eye 10 yrs ago on her ankle and the doctor gae her a blood test and was negative. I am positive that they BOTH have it. she is going to doctor next week.
She got bit in her garden in back yard on Long Island (Wrong Island is my new name for this place.)

Yeah, I'm convinced it is contagious. It is like syphilis and is an STI. I gave it to my ex-boyfriend too!

I am completely surprised that Lyme is contagious! I had no idea. I've heard that some people say it is, but I didn't know it had actually happened.

Please pardon my ignorance.

The thought of this is really scary. I'm concerned for my loved ones. If this is contagious than how can I keep it from those I love?

Just something else to worry about I guess................Willie

With as wide spread (endemic) as tib's (Tick-borne infections) have become, I think we are pretty much out of the stage of trying to prevent it. It is carried even by the birds! That fact alone means it is anywhere birds are.

Don't get me wrong - it is absolutely critical for those who know, to dress appropriately, using what ever tick repellent of their choosing, treating our yards (I've had great success with this!), in order to keep the risks lower. I believe that all we can do is to lower our chances & be VERY vigilant in our tick-checks for ourselves, our family members, and ALL pets... and do our best to try to help inform others.

I got lyme disease about four years ago and drs treated me like rubbish(still do) and my then girlfriend started suffering symptoms. We split up and i found someone else, Fast forward to now and me and my partner are seriously ill with the same illness and after catching up with my ex, she is also seriously ill!

All three of us with the same lyme symptoms and privately told it was borreliosis(think thats it) found in my blood! cant afford to get any more help as im on benefits and drs look at me like im crazy!

Yet me and my partner and also ex suffer in silence whilst this illness is killing us! What a wonderful world!

So yes i got no doubt that lyme is contagious and whats funny is the first partner i was with, Well we never even had sex! So you can call me crazy all you like(not saying you will lol) but lyme is catchable through kissing as well!

This is my opinion and im sorry if anyone does not agree with it but its a fact in my life and i have no doubt at all this is seriously contagious.

Jason,,,,I'm curious..where do you live? how old are you?

wonder how many other contageous stories are out there if we look back into our relationships?

It also could be that half your neighborhood is infected because of the area you live and she didn't catch it from you.

(the kissing girl that is) I think this is two things...being in same infested area and sexual transmission>....

There's plenty of evidence that lyme is contagious. You can google it and find various opinions about it, but more and more evidence is coming out proving lyme is indeed contagious.

By the way, why do you think they don't let you donate blood if you have lyme disease? Why do families of three, four, five and more all have lyme? Sure, some have all been bitten by ticks, but that's not always the case. It's nice to think it isn't contagious, but the evidence is finally coming out saying otherwise.
