I am craving carbs, especially bread as it seems like I can taste the yeast. I am gaining weight,my appetite is too large.

Anybody else do  this?

This is a symptom of possibly 2 things that I know of:

B-Vitamin deficiency
Yeast overgrowth

Correcting the first one is easy - just get a multi-vitamin or B-Complex supplement.

The second one is not so easy...requires probiotics, a low carb/no-yeast diet, and various herbs and/or medication to kill the yeast. Antifungal tannins, zinc, coconut oil, oregano, garlic, thyme, and other things can be helpful. So can homeopathic Candida.

I hope this helps...take care,

Roses, yes, I crave them but most of the time I manage to avoid them.

I just know that if I eat carbs of any kind I gain and if I do a low carb diet I lose (or at least stay the same, which is better than gaining). I've managed to lose almost 20 pounds in 4 months....well, I just "maintained" over the holidays but will hopefully start losing again soon.

Since I have to be gluten free anyway, I just strive to be grain free too, and bake with almond and coconut flours only.

Good luck to you, I hope that the B vitamins help!

nasalady congratulations!! I can't seem to lose 5 pounds and howu manage to stay away from carbs is just comendable. I was just talking to a gf who lost a lot of weight on a carb diet . If I lived alone it'd be easier but if I know the food is here i have not the will power. again, congrats, and I know what u mean about the at least I stay the same. I am putting it on faster than when I was pregnant!! I was always able to eat whatever whenever I wanted that has changed, I went from last spring a size 3 to an 11. goodness,

I've been craving carbs and sugar too....for quite a few months now.  Not my usual way of eating!!

I looked it up in relation to Lyme and read (on one of the big LLMD's sites--wish I could remember who !!!)   that....

.....since Lyme bacteria like cold bodies our own bodies fight this by wanting to warm up, thus we eat carbs/sugar in order to heat ourselves up by processing these high caloric foods.

Cat111

now this is interesting. I honestly have never seen anything like it, I just gave in and ate my 2nd 3rd? sandwich of the day. Now my teeth are killing me and my jaw took two tylenol 3 I think it is starting to ease up pain in teeth and face. this is too fun for me!!

I am going to go proactive, I have started the b vitamins again, will try twice a day,no shots did that too painful and expensive. I am going to take some type of antacid or digestive pill everytime I eat and try to excercise more, its funny I used to be such a hyper person, sometimes I catch the hyper mood but very rare I wanna be a bump on the log now.

thank u so much for what u wrote (I forgot it already) but I will write it down. I don't quite understand though (duh) Iknow I can not stand cold weather so doesn't it seem like that would be because the 'bugs" inside don't like cold? I thought it would be more symbiotic. Have u heard that the thing inside us can actually prolong our lives because it wants self-preservation? This I saw on a documentary. I read a fiction book by tracie peterson and it had a minor character that developed lyme and Peterson depicted the illness correctly!!So some progress is being made. I wish i could afford to go the seminar on the 12th? Its out of the question maybe someone here will be sweet and take notes : )

Hi RIJan,

My accupuncturist/MD says that carb cravings are really from protein deficiency and you should eat more protein. On the other hand, my other LLMD says that carb gravings could be from thyroid and/or adrenal problems. ???? (which really stem from pituitary insufficiency). There's another thought that you have a yeast overgrowth when you have carb cravings. The yeast feeds off the sugars from carbs. So it's important to cut out sugars too. I know, this really suck!!!

They both could be right. But try your hardest not to give into the cravings!! Just think of them as Satan whispering in your ear to make you do something that's not helpful in your recovery. He's a real jerk like that!!

You have had food allergy testing right? You should if not. The chronically inflamed Lyme gut has a really hard time breaking down most grains and dairy. That's why it's really important to be on probiotics at least twice daily.

lots of well wishes, Lisa

Is a probiotic a digestive enzyme that can be purchased or acidopholous?

I want to add something every time I eat. I just know the food's sittin there, just not sure whether to buy the digestive enzyme or the acidophullus which I certainly can not spell!

any opinions welcome thanks .

My LLMD has a very simple test to figure out if you have too much or not enough stomach acid. You put about a teaspoon of baking soda in apprx 8oz of water and drink. Yes it taste nasty. If you have normal acid levels you should start burping within 2-3 minutes. Massive burping(like when drinking a soda) = too much acid; no burping within 5 minutes = too low acid level and need Pepsin and/or betaine with meals. I did not burp at all. So I take betaine with every meal and also when I have "heartburn" or "acid reflux" type burning feeling. Both too much or not enough stomach acid ironically cause the same type of symptoms.

A probiotic is not the same as digestive enzymes (pepsin, betaine). Probiotics help to keep your intestinal flora at a healthy helpful level to fight off all the crap that can grow, especially when you have chronic issues like Lyme. The higher the count on the probiotic the better. I try to use one's that are 15 billion count or higher. The Pure brand is good. There's several good websites to buy from; organicpharmacy.com and emersonecologics are the ones I use.

Roses,
My sugar & wheat cravings were unbearable! My blood sugar would drop, I'd sweat, shake, get light-headed. I've also struggled with extreme hunger and weight gain.
These problems worsen when my yeast is out of control-darn little buggers! My LLMD suggested that I have my general practitioner check my insulin levels. Sure enough I have too much insulin driving down my blood sugars. I didn't have these issues before got sick.
I too must eat almost no carbs and choke down lots of protein. It is tough, but possible. Some mornings I laid in bed crying, because I didn't wanna get out of bed and deal with food. Lots of food intolerances too...from the yeast. Going without sugar & wheat is tough, but it's actually very healthy.

gosh.
that would be awful hard for me because I truly do live for carbs.
How does one get this checked? Is it a blood test? My mom and brother have hypoglcemia, but I truly do not remember how they found this was causing their symptoms.

What would I say to the dr. in order to get my blood sugar tested?
Any suggestions appreciated. I wonder how they can tell.

well..Carol I am sorry for u, my girlfriend went on that carb diet a few years ago lost a lot of weight and honestly I think I'd sit and cry too if I couldn't have carbs because I abhor meat and the carb rules are just horrible

Thank u for sharing, i will write a note to myself to maybe ask dr about it. I need to go in anyway to try to get pain meds sorted out. My thoughts are with u it does not sound fun. Lisa
