My doctor wants an MRI of my head. Was supposed to go today but ended up with a sick child home from school. Rescheduled for Tuesday. A little nervous about what it is going to show as alot of my symptoms are brain related.

I had a brain MRI which showed lesions consistent with either MS or lyme. I don't know if an MRI would show swelling, I would think so.

When my symptoms first started, I had a brain MRI which showed 20 lesions, small and scattered but not typical for MS. No MS they said. That was last July. I just found out now that I have Lyme with at least one co-infection of Ehrlichiosis. My LLMD ordered a Brain Spect Image which I had done last week. Apparently, this is to look for inflammation and blood flow in the brain (but I'm not 100% sure). My symptoms are mostly in my legs with vibrating, numbness in my toe, bottom of foot occasionally, used to have numbness under my left eye, I have occasional tremors...the list goes on and on...

Yes, the MRI would show swelling and/or inflammation, both in the brain and the spinal cord.

I've had two MRIs of the brain, plus 3 of different portions of my spine: cervical, thoracic, lumbar. The brain MRIs were both normal, but the cervical and lumbar MRIs show degenerative disk disease, and nerves impacted by bulging disks at L3-L4 and L4-L5. From what I've read this could be due to Lyme, as Lyme can accelerate the development of DDD.

I have had several MRI's of my head & lesions have never been found - so far anyway! They even were nice enough to let me know that there actually was a brain in there though!!! smilewinkgrin

I did also have a SPECT scan done, and it showed that I have significant reduced blood flow in two areas of my brain. I found something a few months ago that explained that the areas where there is reduced blood flow will directly relate to what kind of symptoms you are having. I'll have to see if I can located that site again!!
