Has anyone here heard of Valley Fever. I found out my sister and dad were both hospitalized with this when we lived in Southern California. I've also read where Brian Rosner (sp) says that lyme can be related to, or misdiagnosed, as Valley Fever. Symptoms seem to be similar. Just curious.

Hi Bbcoach,

I am so sorry to hear that about your Dad & sister!!!

I have had Valley Fever- and although I tested positive for it years ago, I don't have any way of separating the symptoms of Valley Fever from the symptoms of LD & other tick-borne infections that I had at that time.

Fortunately my symptoms from Valley Fever were not severe enough to require hospitalization. From what I understand (& remember eyes ) each person reacts differently - some won't even know that they are positive for Valley Fever because their symptoms were so mild, and of course, as you said happened to your family, there are those that react violently.

I haven't read where Dr. Rosner said it could be related to tick-borne infections though. I was told that Valley Fever was from tiny spores that happen to live in that particular area. It was said that if you lived in the Phoenix Valley for 5 years or more - you could count on getting or having had Valley Fever.

Again - I'm sorry to hear about your Dad & Sister. I hope they are well soon!!

hello, its been a while...
wow, Valley Fever... been a while since ive heard that .
my dad was a research microbiologist in central vally california for 25 years.
his main topic of study was Valley Fever.
1950s-70s, when animals could be used for 'experimentation', i used to like to play with the mice and rabbits he used in the lab.
he wanted to put "zippers in their tummys" to make study easier...
we would go out to the colinga desert to trap kangaroo rats.
he would never let me play with the 'sick' mice.
but i was allowed to pour the bottle of mercury out on to the desk and push the silver giggly gell around.....?!!
he was published in medical journals.
i do recall him talking about spinal menengitis a lot, like it was simmilar to that....
sorry i don't know what his conclusions were.
