Lyme dr. just called and advised husband has positive babesia FISH. (I suspected with his anemia)  She wanted him to start right away on artemisinin but I moved his apt. up cause I want to talk to her.
He is only on 100 mg. 2X a day on doxy.  Shouldn't he be on more than that now esp. in light of lyme and babesia?  He is still out of work and it is crucial that we treat aggressively.  I think she was waiting for us to come back in so I shall see tomorrow I guess.
Does anyone have experience with artemisin?  Bad herxing?  Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have used Artemsinin -- it is a very good medicine. This time I am taking it three weeks on and one week off. Nine months of this and I am still herxing when I start it up again. The length of treatment has more to do with my worn out immune system rather than the effectiveness of artemisinin, so don't despair that it will take as long! (I had a two year treatment for a 25 year chronic and 1 year acute infections and then got bitten again a month after coming off meds and have now been being treated for 11 months).

I imagine that your husband's doc is working slowly so as not to give him a bad herx. The lower dose doxy will hold the Lyme in check while the Artemisinin goes after the Babesia.

Sounds like your husband is in very good hands! That's great.

I wanted to say that I hope your husband's treatment goes well and without any major issues!! I also agree with Achievinggrace about the lower dose of Doxy, considering your hubby's past reaction to being infected. I would still suggest that you speak with his LLMD though! Information is key to success in this fight!!

I started one month on two abx, felt fine, then added doxy 100mg 2x/day and had a massive herx in less than 2 weeks. So starting slow with it ain't such a bad thing, IMHO. I'm sure your hubby's doc will up the dose as needed.

I have Lyme and Babesia as well. I am also taking artemisin and it has done wonders for me. For Babesia i'm on a combination of mephron and artemisin. I've been on them for about 9 months and they have worked great. It took a really long time for them to begin showing improvement for me but eventually they have been great for me. I am on 500 miligrams of artemisin 3 times a day so I am on a pretty heavy treatment plans.

The thing I like about it most is it is a more natural drug than anti biotics so it doesn't have sever side effects.
