Just found out there is a local women who is in the hospital and not doing very well due to an infection.

She has been being treated for lyme but I do not know the details.

What I do know is that she started have memory issues and "going off the deep end".

Thru blood tests they found she had lyme. Supposedly the best lyme doctors were called in.

She was "crashing" last night.  All of this was told to me by people who know of her but are not directly involved.

It seems that her illness is not being contributed to lyme but other infections she has.

We all know that it is due to lyme and co-infections.

My hearts goes out to the family and really bring how horrible lyme is.

I will post it I find out anything else.

I'm praying for all effected by lyme, their family and friends.

So so sad to hear this story. My heart goes out to the family as well. Is there anyway you can get this forum information to the family. I don't know what I would have done without the information and support this forum has provided me. I just recently went through scary events with my husband having a breakdown and ending up in the hospital twice. While we came across many wonderful people, overall the doctors and medical staff knew nothing about lyme and simply dismissed my claims. Thank goodness with my experiences I persisted and he tested positive for lyme and babesia. There is a wonderful brochure on psychiatric lyme on the ILADS website. I remember when my brother was critically ill in the hospital for 8 months with a disease (not lyme) we did not understand. We would have done anything to come across a family who had experienced something similiar or could offer us any assistance of what to expect. While I know you do not know this family, perhaps by just reaching out to the common friend that you can provide this family with a little bit of assistance.

I'm sorry to say that Joann passed away last night.

She had an infection that they didn't know how to treat.  It was like malaria the doctors said.  So why couldn't they treat her.

I really am so confused right now.

So here we have a women, mother and a wife who is not longer with us.  She died because of an infection that the insurance companies and doctors wont treat as should be.

I'm having a very difficult time with all of this.....

My thoughts and prayers are with Joann's family.

So so sorry to hear this. Wonder if in fact she had babesia, which is very similar to malaria. Was she battling this sickness for long and went untreated - do you know? I see that you live in the northeastern coastal US as I do. I assume she did too (?) which is an endemic area. Her poor poor family.

By what I understand she didn't know she had lyme until she was very sick.

I don't know all the details. Wish I could get my hand on the results of her blood work.

The also is no autopsy being proformed. Her daughters don't want one. So there will be no clear answers as to what really caused her death.

Yes I'm from the northeastern costal US. Grew up here. So I grew up knowing about lyme and know alot who have or had lyme. Wonderful part of the country except for the lyme.

If you have confusion about what happened because of the lack of treatment, there is a wonderful but scary movie called 'Under Our Skin' that should shed some light on why that kind of thing can happen.

its always sad to hear of these stories but it paints a better picture of the world and country we live in.
