Update on my mom: After one week on ABX for possible Lyme, the swelling in her lower leg + ankle and the fluid in her knee is gone. The pain in her calf is also gone.
I'd say this is a pretty good result for what has basicaly been an ABX challenge for Lyme since she tested negative for it....
..... and was thought to not have Lyme (of course) by every doctor except my own LLMD who prescribed the ABX.
My very pragmatic and doctor reliant father, is not fully on board concerning the 'politics' of Lyme, etc.. I have tried to explain but to no avail.
As a result, he has included my mom's GP in her 'diagnosis' of Lyme which was based on symptoms, rather than the blood test.
The GP just shrugged at this.....and went on to explain the horrible, deadly dangers of high dose ABX....and that my mom should NOT take them for more than a month.
Luckily my mom has not developed any new symptoms, nor have symptoms worsened, nor did she have any kind of a herx reaction that many of us are used to.
I am hopeful that the Lyme infection was caught early and that she will recover and be rid of Lyme with one month of ABX.
She will see my LLMD again in three weeks for her first follow-up. But because of the GP's fear of ABX, and his shrugging position on LLMD's,
I worry that my dad will not opt for another round of ABX should my LLMD prescribe it.
I can already see my dad saying to him...."My wife seems to be cured, so let's not do any more ABX because they are dangerous.... and we'll wait and see what happens."
I know I'm jumping to the worse conclusion....ugg.
