I started working as a mental health counselor while really sick with Lyme (although I didn't know that's what it was at the time) - after a few months I felt terrible about it, but I had to quit - I just couldn't handle the demands of that kind of job. I could hardly take care of myself - I just didn't have the energy to help anyone else!
If you can afford not to work for a while - the decision is yours to make. I kept trying to work even though my body was telling me it couldn't - within the course of 2 years I changed jobs 4 times - from 40 to 9 hours a week until my body couldn't even handle that! Working can most definitely add a lot of stress to your life during treatment, although at the same time, most days I wish like crazy that I still had a job because it gets boring, lonely, etc.
There's no right or wrong decision - you just have to go with your gut on this one. If you don't think going back to work is the right choice for you - give yourself permission to put your health first.
