Hi All: I have not been here in ages. I had not been able to find an LLMD where I live but I was recently prescribed Doxycycline for a chronic staph infection on my skin. I was curious what is the amount of Doxy that is normally prescribed for Lyme Disease? I was dx 100 mg.daily and I am wondering if that little amount would be apt to help or hurt the lyme. By hurting I mean, make the spirochetes angry but not enough to get rid of them. Trying to kill two birds with one stone as this doc does not recognize Lyme Disease. Thanks so much, hope all of you are doing well.   Dowa

100mg a day probably won't do much. The drug could possibly reach a high enough blood level to slow the growth of new bacteria (bacteriostatic), but won't get high enough to actually kill the ones that are already there (bactericidal).

A 200 mg dose can be effective if you catch the infection early, but most LLMDs seem to go with at least 400mg a day with doxy.
