OK, I'm newly diagnosed and WAAAAAY overwhelmed with all the conflicting info out there on Lyme.  My GP initially prescribed a 3 week prescription of doxycycline.  Which I have finished.  I went back today since I have finished the rx and am still symptomatic, including new neurological symptoms which I never had before.  I believe that I have had Lyme for a long time (maybe as long as 20 years) from when I lived in CT.  GP dismissed that out of hand saying "your titers weren't that high...." *looks at my chart* "well they are really high but...." and trails off.  GRRR!!!
He is now wanting to do an MRI looking for MS (isn't this a common misdiagnosis?)  Which I don't understand because he already assigned the Lyme diagnosis.  Then he wanted to prescribed meds for the low thyroid and restless legs which aren't those both Lyme symptoms?  I suggested we wait to do new RX's until we got test results and he said "I'm just trying to make you comfortable"  I think he really just wants me to have fewer complaints, know what I mean?  He also dismissed the possibility that they are related to the lyme.
I'm thinking I'd be better off seeing and LLMD.  I had wanted to give the GP a chance, but I think he has lost my confidence today.
I am trying an essential oil protocol, which is working well (herxing like crazy had to cut down on the dose and take it slower) but I'd prefer some guidance right now.  Ya know!?!?

Hi fiveineight,

Welcome to the forum!

Do get to an LLMD as soon as you can. Your primary doctor is way out of his depth on this one. You'll end up going for expensive and, frankly, alarming testing that will do nothing to further your healing.

For information on finding a Lyme Literate Medical Doctor(LLMD) in your area, please email our long time member, Dan's Mother at:
If you'd like more doctor suggestions, you can email stephanie at: stephanie@turnthecorner.org You can also go to: www.turnthecorner.org/bod.htm if you want to learn a little bit more about Lyme Disease.

You can also go to The Lyme Disease Association and search for LLMD's 3 times in a month. You have to register first. Here is the link: www.lymediseaseassociation.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=277&Itemid=74

You will want to find an ILADS (International Lyme And Associated Diseases Society) doctor. The ILADS site is a great place to read to get you started on your Lyme journey.

You really want someone who knows what they are doing with this!

And do have a look at our "New to Lyme?" thread at the top of the forum. It will give you a good start to learning what you need to know about Lyme disease.

Hi! Welcome to this wonderful forum that I like to call my new home LOL!  smilewinkgrin
First of all, your situation sounds much like what I went through when I found out I had Lyme. Only I finished the 4 week dose and said but I'm still sick and wanted further treatment for Lyme and another test perhaps..and the DR told me, NO you will always test positive for Lyme, but you are cured. There is nothing more he would do for me. I was then told I just had Fibromyalgia. Makes me so mad when I kept telling Dr after Dr that I was getting worse and this disease was progressing, followed by them telling me it does NOT progress and when I asked for more Lyme tests, I was completely dismissed and given "pain pills" to almost shut me up!!
Years later, I am very sick and I am so lucky because my husband actually talks about me and how sick I am at work and he had a client tell him that she and her whole family were affected by Lyme and that she had books and movies made about her family and Lyme. She is brilliant and actually now that her family is better, she flew overseas to study some type of  psychotheology or something..I can't remember. Anyway, she asked if I had tested positive for Lyme and he said yes and she suggested finding an LLMD. I found one thanks to the lovely folks on this very forum and I am just starting treatment. I have had this for a long time and I'm pretty dang sick.
Don't waste time, get to an LLMD..run! Don't let one more DR tell you that you aren't sick, or it isn't due to Lyme. Shoot, my Dr's nurse practicioner told me Lyme never hurt anyone.. shocked
Stick around, we are good listeners and there are always people here to share experiences, lend a shoulder to cry on, answer questions, etc!
