I have been having alot of skin issues lately and seeing a dermatologist. She ran an ANA last week and just called and said it was Positive. Do many folks with Lyme Disease have an abnormal ANA result. Lupus is what she was looking for and I know there is so much about the two that are the same. Anyone have an ANA that you could blame on the Lyme or do we keep looking? Thanks~

My DD10 had a positive ANA speckled type (twice). She is positive for bartonella and indeterminate for lyme through Igenex.

I tested positive on an ANA test.

My specialist appt rhuemy said I had Sjogren's Syndrome auto-immune with joint inflammation in knees and possible early arthritis and wanted to give me drugs. Devastating for me, I am heavy fitness anti pharma drugs so went online and corresponded with this research doctor molecular biologist nominated for Nobel Peace Prize Dr. Garth Nicoloson after finding his site.

He's been studying Lymes, mycplasmas, virals, many many things for over 30 years. Proved a lot. His peers are doctors with proof of these things. Not mainstream. He worked for University of Texas and now in CA with his research facility. Incidentally his wife is also a well respected molecular biologist.

I learned many auto-immune diseases are actually symptoms of lymes, mycoplasmas and virals and co infections. The bugs hit the body in different locations so the mainstream calls them different names of diseases to treat with drugs that may mask symptoms but don't treat the cause to cure it.

They were dead on with me, I tested positive for mycoplasmas, I'm very neuro with a lot more symptoms and sick so am treating as if I have lyme and bart and bab as I have very strong lyme and bart symptoms and see the ND on Apr 3. On doxy and Samento and Artmenisin right now. Just starting to see positive neuro result being on doxy since Feb 2. Herb start March 16th. Real sick but am starting to get small brain fog release and understanding clearer though joint inflammation still bad and flu like daily well before treatment.

Check it out. It says Lupus like your diagnosis, Sjogrens like mine. If you read here these diseases often ARE bugs and virals etc. This research doc's is very knowledgeable about lyme disease and has treatments and dislikes the fact it's hidden. One of us.

You said, "I know there is so much about the two that are the same."(Lupus and Lymes). Like they are two different diseases.

His research proves much of the time, "there are NOT so much about the two that are the same thing, BUT, that they ARE the same thing."

The disease name Lupus is in fact a symptom of lymes or other bacteria's and co-infections etc. if not lymes.

Make sense?

Good luck. Stay informed.

Hi Dowa - yes a positive ANA is pretty common with Lyme. I know a lot of doctors can be lead in the wrong direction by seeing this test result - many of them don't know that, for whatever reason, autoimmune issues are common with Lyme infections.

You're right - Lyme and lupus overlap a lot, and in general it seems chronic infections and autoimmune disorders overlap a lot. IMO, they sort of cause each other in a self-perpetuating cycle, and it doesn't always matter which came first. If you're interested in looking into it more, I know the subject of ANA has come up before - recently, I believe - so it might be worth a quick search here on the forum.

Yes, I've had elevated ANA's and normal ANA's. Single pattern (homogenous) and duel-pattern (homogenous-speckled). Diagnosed with Lupus, but I don't have kidney or liver issues like many with Lupus have...but I do have skin and joint issues. I personally believe my Lupus is Lyme-related, and I fervently hope the issues disappear once the Lyme has been conquered sufficiently.
