Hey guys,

My Rhuematologist did my Lyme tests (again) and here's what he found:

ELISA
IgG <.08
IgM 1.52

And then at the bottom of the paper I think WB?

p23 PRESENT
p39 ABSENT
p41 ABSENT

He then gave me a random DX of Reactive Arthritis and closed the door on Lyme even though my symptoms are so fitting!

I am making appointment with and Infectious Disease Specialist until I can get into and LLMD.

I also have very high CRP, on and off positive ANA and Low WBC count.

Can anyone help me make sense of all these tests? Feeling lost.

Thanks,

SeeingGreen

So is your IGM within range or flagged?

Your positive for band 23 is a flag.  Band 23 is lyme specific.  When I was misdiagnosed, I had only band 39 appear which is also lyme specific.  I'm glad to hear you are awaiting an appointment with LLMD but to tell you the truth I wouldn't bother with infectious disease dr.  They follow a totally different protocol for diagnosis and treatment.

Have you been tested at all for coinfections?

IgM is Positive (flagged) range is .08, IgG negative. It looks like they were done at Quest in Valencia, CA. I was also tested for Ehrlichia but that was negative.

So you think Lyme is still a possibility then? If my IgM has remained positive for 1/2 a year does that mean an infection is present?

This is confusing! Thank you so much for your input. I do not want to go the the ID guy but my mom is really pushing for it.

There are conflictings reports on whether once the antibodies show up whether or not they always will but in my opinion, if you are still testing positive on an elisa with a band 23, then yes perhaps you could have an active infection.

Has your IgM remained positive? Were you treated previously?

This is my second time getting testing done once last october and once now 6 months later. Each time I had the same results: negative IgG positive IgM and one positive band (p23). This time however my IgM rose slightly from 1.39 to 1.52.
I was not treated because my doctor said thats not enough to call it "positive"-you need 2/3 bands.

But I find strange this test keeps indicating an infection is present... I feel like the door should still be open on Lyme...

Yes he should be but as you may know, there is great controversy in the medical community with regard to lyme. That is why I said not to go to infectious disease dr. An LLMD is the way to go. Lyme is really nothing to fool around with and with the results you are getting especially the high CRP (which I also had), there is definitely something going on.

What symptoms are you having?

This is so helpful, thank you! You're giving me hope!

My CRP was through the roof- it is flagged after 8.00 and mine was 36.7!! Since october it has come down to 17.0, which I feel is still not acceptable.

My symptoms vary: my biggest problems are my joints mainly my knees which blew up in october to the point where walking was impossible. But also my collar bones, ankles and hips especially around my cycle are very painful.
I have had swollen glands, cyst in my breast, loss of feeling in my arms and legs, skin that hurts to be touched, sore spots on my head, mild facial paralysis, loss of feeling in face after I drink alcohol, hives that last for 3 weeks at a time and cover my whole body, heart pain, dizziness, what i call "brain waves" kind of like vertigo. Forgetfulness sometimes while driving, stiff neck and back, herniated disc, permanent headaches and stabbing pains above my ear and in my abdomen.

^Thats the short list- I don't know a whole lot about Lyme but it seems like the best fit out of the thousand other things I've been tested (negative) for!

Wow sounds ever so eerily familiar. You certainly have been through a lot and yes it really does sound like lyme. Its hard to convey to people what you are suffering isn't it? I remember when people would ask me I just never knew where to start - how do you say that nothing feels normal - nothing - without sounding like a nut right?

Hi SeeingGreen,

On my quest to find out what was wrong with me, I had the unfortunate experience of seeing a Rheumatologist who, at my insistence ordered a Western Blot through LabCorp. When the results came in, he very smugly says "As I suspected, you're negative for Lyme, so we can put that to rest". I can't remember what exact bands were positive, but I was 4 bands positive, including band 39 and 41 I believe.

I didn't bother with an ID doc, I went straight to an LLMD. Not saying that some ID's aren't knowledgeable about Lyme, but I think you have a much better shot with an LLMD. As soon as I saw an LLMD, she sent my blood to Igenex, where I was diagnosed CDC Positive for Lyme.

I've had many of the same symptoms as you, so I would say Lyme is a definite possibility, despite what the Rheumatologist might say.
