Hi All:

I have a couple new symptoms, one of which is tinnitus (started early Feb.).  I just woke up with it in the middle of the night and it's been with me ever since.  This I can deal with.  The other one is more concerning.  I've heard a bit about Lyme Carditis and don't know if that's what this is so I'm looking for feedback.  This has been occurring for the past couple/few months.  ONLY when I lie down (generally at night), it feels like my heartbeat become more noticeable and pronounced to me.  Since I've never had palpitations, I'm not sure if that's what this is.  I wouldn't necessarily say that my heart beats any faster but I'm way more conscious of it and can hear it beating through my ear with my head resting on my pillow, which never happened before.  Also, in listening to the beat, it's normal EXCEPT it almost seems like there's an extra beat or a missing beat in there, but very rarely.  I might have to listen for 30-60 seconds to detect the irregularity.  It's subtle enough that both my boyfriend and I both had to listen carefully and even thought maybe we 'misheard' it.   I have no physical symptoms associated with this while lying in bed--no pain, no changes in breathing, nothing.  And I notice nothing during the day, only upon lying down at night.

I am treating with an out-of-state LLND, am Rifing and taking herbs but no antibiotics.  I suffer from significant MCS (Multiple Chemical Sensitivity) and am looking to avoid abx. for as long as possible due to prior reactions to both antibiotics and anesthesia as well as a tendency toward Candida.  I have been unemployed for going on 2 years and am significantly hampered financially.  Since I no longer have health insurance (can't afford it), unless the heart issue worsens significantly, I really can't go to the doctor to have it checked.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Hello Norsk,

This is one of the symptoms that I found got worse with treatment and then simply vanished at some point.

Perhaps your treatment is "just stirring things up". Not very scientific, I know!

When I did consult doctors about the things going on with my heart, some anomalies would show up on the tests. With further inquiry, they would see that there was nothing life-threatening and just say it was just one of those things. Not very helpful, but at least it put my mind at ease.

I did find that getting up and moving around a little would usually resolve the heart over-pounding and weird rhythm. The worst thing you can do is lie there and listen to your heart in a growing panic!!

So, save your money and wait to see if the treatment resolves the issue.

Of course, if you feel you are in danger, do go and get it checked out!

Hope it goes away soon.

Norsk Hiker,

I have similar heart symptoms.  I was well tested a few years ago and found to have a mitral valve prolapse and a partial right bundle branch block from the Lyme.  Neither of those are considered particularly serious, unless perhaps there are other compoundung factors.  You may want to let your doc know at your next visit so he/she can keep an eye on it.

Hi Norsk,

I've had heart symptoms since the very beginning of dealing with Lyme (2006). They went away for the 2 years I was feeling better, but came back with this relapse. Anything having to do with the heart, I would advise to get checked out, but a lot of times nothing shows up on the tests, unless there is a heart block or something (according to my Cardiologist, at least). The only thing that shows up on my tests are a lot of PVC's and heart arrhythmia which they tell me isn't serious. Magnesium can help some heart symptoms, so maybe give that a try and see if it eases up for you.

I have this same symptom. It is so weird. My heart feels like it is coming out my neck. I have had my heart checked before and there was nothing wrong with it. I do have orthostatic hypotension though.

I also have this and it's worse when I lie down too. Mine sometimes races and pounds. I have not had it checked with an EKG or anything. I notice that it goes away sometimes depending on what antibiotic I'm on. Usually it's worse when I'm off everything.

PARASITES.

I haven't had any heart pain for almost 3 yrs now since doing parasite treament and it used to be off the charts. I used to take roxy codone for heart and chest pain before that.

I never take magnesium anymore either. It actually added to my problems.

Bucci - which parasite treatment did you use? We have used Natural Factors Parasite formula and some berberine - a little herxing, but nothing much. Not too much improvement either. Thanks.

I get horrible chest pains when I lie down..but now that I am taking 800 mg of magnesium it has greatly helped those pains..UNLESS I eat something with lemons..then my GERD takes over and I'm in heart pains again.

I was wondering the same thing about the heart. I never feel my heart bother me, but my heart beats very fast. Had lymes about 20 years ago and recently diagnosed with Babesiosis, Bartonella, and one other which I forget. Dealing with Babesioisis first. Taking Doxy and Medpro, and Nystatin. also have MCS (severe), FM, CF, IC, Costrochondrits, Epilepsy, Nerve pain, tinnitus, Adrenal Fatigue, Thryoid, and Kidney Failure. My heart beat averages 140-150 and IlADS dr said it takes a lot of energy for heart to beat that fast. My dr at first said nothing wrong now says my right atrium is enlarged but don't know why. How does everyone deal with the herx reaction and still do everything else. I am the primary caregiver for my mother and now don't have the energy. any suggestions.

I used to have those heart problems that occurred when lying down.  It hurt for me though, so not sure if it was the same problem, but I got rid of it taking magnesium/potassium aspartate.  No other form of magnesium worked like this for me.
