Hi All: I am wondering what exactly causes the neck sounds that sound like glass grinding? I do not have this symptom all of the time and sometimes it involves pain and other times not. It honestly sounds like bone grinding to bone but then after a day (or more) it is gone. If the inflammation was causing this from LD, why would it miraculously disappear as fast as it appears? Anyone experience this neck sound? Thanks~

I can relate. I've had this really bad as well. Sometimes with pain and sometimes not, but its almost constant. I'm pretty certain mine is being caused by muscle and tissue breakdown, which is being caused by lyme. More specifically it could go something like this.... Lyme = myositis (inflammation of muscle) = inabilty of muscle to contract normally = breakdown of muscle/tissue = neck crunch sounds. Thats just my theory though.

Thank you Andy. I see there is another post about neck sounds, I did not see that today when I posed mine. I am curious as to why if its Lyme related, it does disappear at times. Yes, it returns but I do have pain free and sound free days which are nice.

Dowa,
In my earlier "what does your neck sound like?" post, "tickledpink" mentioned a similar sound in her/his knees. When Lyme travels to the bigger joints like the knees, it causes arthritis. It could be similar; even though I've never heard of getting arthritis in your neck. But you never know; it is something to think about. I'm not sure if anyone really knows why people who have Lyme also have crackling necks; or the answer would have been posted a hundred times by now.

I was in a serious car accident many years ago and herniated two disks in my neck. I have read that Lyme tends to "settle" in old areas of injury. Have you heard that? Makes sense if that area is vulnerable.

Yes, I can only say that I have terrible pain in my left foot and funnily enough it is the foot which I badly sprained a few years ago.I also broke two toes on the same foot last year.I guess Lymes is the master of taking advantage of the body's weakest points.

The last time I researched why joints pop and crack, the consensus seemed to be "no one really knows!" I think I remember hearing something about calcium deposits, but from what I've read any explanation at this point is hypothetical (isn't everything?) - I do notice that some days are much, much worse than others, with people just staring at me because every movement is so loud with all the cracking! Interesting topic to research, though - sorry I can't be much help!
