Hi All,

I'm new to this site, but not to lyme disease. Have had it for 8 years. Most troubling thing right now is excessive weight gain, in the last two years. Have been diagnosed with hypothyroid, but not on meds, as treating with acupuncture, cranial sacral work, and natural herb supplementation. Hypothyroid is not primary, as mine was outcome of adrenal stress, so a lot of work on adrenal and adrenal support supplementation/cranial sacral/visual imagery...etc...

Am and have been very health conscious for the last 12 years, with strict diet of all organic, very low carb, low fat except from coconut oil, no dairy to very low dairy, no grains, no sugars besides apples and some berries eaten on empty stomach maybe 1/wk; lots of H20,herbs and supplements to aid in health, digestion and absorption. I eat lots of raw foods (70% or more) with some cooked veggies, and organic, grass fed meats/eggs. Although am on same regimen for last 12 years, just continue to gain, and gain, and gain!!

I know I am leptin resistance, and have incorporated some of the basics of the leptin diet regimen, with no improvement (3months), instead more weight gain!!

Can't do any kind of work out, because get very sick, with severe herx, or get very very sick when I tried to work through the sickness.

Please comment if you had success with getting rid of's that have helped you, supplements, meds....anything just to lose weight which are causing other major problem.

I thank you all for any positive feedback, and wish you much luck and success in your journey.

Hi lucky66
How long have you been treating your hypo without thyroid meds? Sounds like you need thyroid supplementation - at this point it appears that without it, no exercise or dieting will help you with weight loss. Your also exhausting your adrenals by being hypo.
I gained weight shortly after being diagnosed with lyme, but I am an emotional eater - I felt so bad for myself because I was feeling so awful and would eat anything and everything. Have it under control now.
Good luck!

I agree with MojoZ about the need for supplementation for your thyroid, as it is stressing out your adrenals even further. I'm just almost all natural (except for sleep aid) and I use a homeopathic remedy for both my thyroid and adrenal issues. If you would like a good site (in my opinion) to read further about the thyroid and adrenal functions, please follow this link:

With that being said though, is there any possibility that you could have Babesia? I do and one of the things that really gets on my nerves is the weight gain that goes along with some Babesia infections. :shake head: It doesn't matter what I eat, or how high my activity levels are - I gain weight.eyes I'll be glad when my Acu doc and I can get me past this infection too!!! LOL!

I'm not sure how you can treat hypothyroidism without any thyroid meds at all. If your body is not producing enough T3 and T4 on its own, even with an adrenal support diet, it doesn't seem like your body can be in balance. I also am hypothyroid, (and have Lyme and Babesia) but take compounded thyroid meds - I saw no reason to take synthetic thyroid! I have to say that has helped me tremendously. My body is fighting these TBI's, I saw no reason to put added stress on it.

You sound like you have a wonderful diet - I wish I could be as health conscious as yourself!

Hi All,
Thanks for your thoughtful responses...and the great websites for more education.
I am truly overwhelmed with the information and prioritize what to do, as I find there are many, many, many options, and not enough money. I do the best I can with the information I have been able to obtain. It is difficult at best.

My level of T3/T4 are high, not excessive, but high. Getting treated with a form of cranial sacral work did get my T3/T4 to near normal, but not normal; but have not gone back for another blood insurance. My bills, for all kinds of treatment average well above twenty five thousand a year, and I guess I work to maintain the health I have left.

What exactly do you do for the Babesia? When I refer to LD, I am referring to all the co-infections...I know I just don't have that one, but others.

I am currently on the Buhner protocol, and I'm feeling much better but the weight gain is so excessive, I'm thinking about going off it for a few...I have to make the decision to either spend it on medical treatment or buy new clothes every two weeks, because of this weight gain!

Again, I thank you all for your time and suggestions.
