Hello, I was clinically diagnosed with Lyme Disease on Monday and started 100mg Doxycycline twice a day. I started having symptoms last Friday.

My GP noted that I should start feeling better after a couple of days but when I woke up at 4am this morning my back was experiencing lots of pain (as usual) which forced me to get up and have a couple of Tylenol and sit in a chair.

How long should it take the Doxycycline to relieve my symptoms?

At what point should I cry uncle and seek additional medical advice/treatment?

Thanks, Tom

Hi tap,

I was put on doxy and started feeling better, then about 3 days in I had super sharp pains in my neck and in my back (didn't know what was going on at this point) then after about 10 days for like 30 mins in the afternoon I would feel like I was coming down with the flu and then get a mild fever and then...I'd be fine. 30 days of doxy and I was almost back to normal.

Unfortunately right after I ended the doxy symptoms started coming back and worse. That is when I went to an LLMD who put me on the right medication. I hope you start feeling better soon. In the meantime I would look for a Lyme Literate dr - there is usually a waiting list. I was okay but *** hit the fan in january, unable to work etc. but luckily I had an appt already set up. Right back on abx and I was back at work. Don't hesitate to ask questions here.

When it is at the point where it is late(r) stage, it would be unusual for 30 days of low dose doxy to do much of anything, I regret to tell you.

It all depends.
Where you newly infected with Lyme? Did you have any EM rash?

How long is your script for Doxy?

I started having symptoms on Friday July 5th, just over a week ago. I did not notice a rash until Sunday July 7th which was near my left underarm. I saw my GP on Monday July 8th and started my prescription for 21 days immediately upon returning home from the pharmacy Monday morning.

I had back pain that woke me again this morning. My other symptoms seem to be much relieved and the rash is nearly gone as well but the back pain persists.

Good stuff that you caught it right away.

Since Doxy is killing ALL bugs in your system, you may have what's called a herx reaction. So you may feel worse before better.
Eat super clean, drinks lots of water (add lemon), stay away from meat for now, no dairy and make sure you add a really good Probiotic while on the abx. Take 50 billion units 2 x a day while on doxy (take 3 hrs away from abx) and take 50 billion 1 x a day for 3 weeks after doxy is over. And then maintain with a 10 billion unit a day.
My probiotics of choice are from Pure Encapsulation called Pro 50 and 5

I had bad back pain too when I went on Doxy. It subsided as soon as I stopped it. Interestingly enough I went back on Doxy 4 months later and had zero back pain. I'm now just taking natural herbs. You caught it early so you have a great chance of beating it.

Tell your GP you're slowly getting better but not quite there yet and push for a refill just in case you didn't get all the buggers. You don't want to be on here complaining months or years from now.
