I completely agree! Although I believe that we don't receive proper thyroid evaluation or medication either. I essentially had to diagnose myself, then insist that my doc test me for not just TSH or T4 counts. Then he put me on a T4 only med - which the body has to be able to convert to T3 before it could help. I didn't respond well to that, but he was willing to just leave me on that med. I started looking into things myself and discovered that I can get the meds I need for adrenal and thyroid support in forms that are readily available for the body to absorb from my local health food store.
No more Synthroid for me! I'm sure it works for some people, but I believe that the majority of us will do better on some of the natural support or replacement meds. If a person can get a script
for naturally compounded dessicated thyroid, it would be good as well.
The same goes for adrenal issues - most doc's won't even recognize it until the person's adrenals are crashing, or they have Cushings. For anyone who is having possible adrenal issues, you must ask for the 24 hour saliva test - it's the only one that will accurately tell what the output of your adrenals are during the day - we should start out high, then start falling off. Many times in those with Lyme, cortisol production will peak a second time, late in the day - which is why we will suddenly feel a bit better after 4 pm or whatever.
Yet again, something we must learn in order to be treated properly.
