I started taking herbs for lyme a week ago  and suddenly I feel much worse.  Does any one have any experience of herxing after starting herbs?  I am usually sensitive to drugs or alcohol of any kind, but I thought herbs would be more gentle.

I take herbs and you will still herx with them.

I would say they are more gentle in the sense that you can control the dosage easier then if you're on abx. It's much easier to dial back on herbs if things are too rough.

Just like with abx, with herbs you don't want to just kill, you also need to take antioxidants to help with detox.

I am also taking curcumin and quercitin to help with inflammation

I take serrapeptase and haritaki to help with the biofilms.

What is your current protocol?

If you are detoxing properly (there are detailed instructions in the Sticky Thread on this forum called New to Lyme? Start Here!") then you should not be herxing so badly.

Start taking detox baths (first dry skin brush), start off slow to see how you react, and slowly build up your detox regime.   If you don't have a tub, there are detox foot baths.   Dry skin brushing every day should take at least 15 minutes if you are doing it correctly.

Then there is diet.  Learn how to eat healthy and avoid sugars, carbs (they turn into sugar), avoid processed foods, etc.

Hope this helps,

Denise

What Denise said

NO ONE and I repeat no one should be on abx or strong herbs without doing detoxing or cellular drainage first.
Herxing is not conducive to healing.

LLMD's do not know about proper detoxing since, at the end of the day, they are MD;s who are not trained in proper detox methods.

I started on Essiac tea and it really helped my fatigue and energy level.  Then I tried Cats Claw and Samento at the same time with the essiac.  That is when I got really sick.  I figured it must be a herx reaction.  It only lasted about 36 hours and when I stopped the herbs it passed.  I am now just on the essiac tea and herxing is minimal and worth the benefits.  I will be more careful when trying herbs from now on.

No matter whether we are talking about abx or herbs - when starting something new, or even restarting something, go slowly!!! Even when just raising your dosage, go slowly! It's much, much better for you and your body to take it slow.

I always noticed that I most often it took a day or two & sometimes three days for my body to respond to the new dose or new med/herb. So be sure to give yourself at least 2 days at each dose before raising.

And again, detox, detox, detox!! There are so many ways to detox!!! A person should be doing at least 3 or 4 things to help detox their body as they go through any kind of treatment.
