" I am very concerned by the rate of Lyme in our country, and especially in Connecticut. For this reason, I have introduced legislation to help develop better tools for diagnosing and reporting Lyme, as well as increase awareness and education in the medical community. The Lyme and Tick-Born Disease Prevention, Education, and Research Act establishes a tick-borne disease advisory committee to streamline coordination agencies that address tick-borne illnesses, and would coordinate increased research and development around Lyme.
Additionally, this bill would increase educational efforts among the public and physicians to better identify the symptoms of Lyme, and would require the Secretary of Health and Human Services to publish reports evaluating the activities performed to combat Lyme. I am proud that this important bill was one of the first that I introduced as a United States Senator. Unfortunately, the legislation did not receive a vote last Congress. However, I intend to work toward its passage this Congress and achieve positive results for Lyme patients and their families."
This is a direct quote from my correspondence with Senator Blumenthal. I don't want to misrepresent what his legislation is about.
To be quite honest I am sick of researching scientific studies about lyme disease. I am also tired of reading 30-40 books on conflicting information about how to heal lyme. I am also tired of being blamed for my illness as I might not be eating right, detoxing enough, avoiding stress or not taking the right herbs or supplements. Or maybe I am not getting better because I am taking antibiotics. It is strange since I took years of the same antibiotics for acne when I was a teenager and no one had a problem prescribing them or ever mentioned to my parents that I was damaging my body. Or maybe it is the combinations of things I'm taking are wrong. There are so many ways that as victims we have been blamed. It is so wrong that doctors and others have turned the blame around on innocent people that are sick with lyme. We have been laughed at, ridiculed, denied treatment, shuffled from doctor to doctor and told by doctors that they refuse to treat lyme. I have also been lied to many times about test results being told they are normal and when getting copies found abnormalities. I was told I was in menopause many times and mentally ill, of course men seem to have less of these excuses overall as women are believed to be high strung.
By the way there is also legislation by the FDA that wants to start regulating supplements and herbs and also limit what compounding pharmacies can make.
I really have difficulty believing that support of this legislation will not help the citizens of this country.
But so be it, I can continue doing what is right for me.
