I've talked with several parents in my area that took their young child in to the doc because their child had a very unmistakable bull eye rash. They knew this meant Lyme, but nothing else. So when the doc's in this area tell them "Let's wait and see if the rash disappears" and when it does they are told, "Yeah, I didn't think it was Lyme". One parent was already noticing the cognitive effects of Lyme in her 9 yr old, but no doc in the area would even consider that it was more than just "a problem child" issue, saying she was just bored or didn't want to be in school.
As I keep asking, what happened to 'first do no harm'??? Some doc's tell me that it means that they aren't supposed to just start throwing medicines at people, but when I ask about
these situation, and knowing that no treatment at all is just almost the worst that can happen, they go quiet.....real quiet.
In my opinion it's the misinformation out there that is doing the most harm. These people knew that the bulls eye rash meant Lyme but had to rely on the doctors here for more information and then they didn't know what to do when they were turned away.
I am in favor of us talking about
our illnesses to people who are receptive and in need of it. Some - like me - should start doing things for awareness in the area where they live or work as soon as they have the energy to do so. Opugirl did this!
