Hi and welcome, Fugazi!!!
First of all, thank you for your kind words about
our forum!! We kind of like it too!
It would be best for you to start off with reading our "New to Lyme? Start here!" thread, if you haven't yet. It's got a lot of really important information, symptom lists and more.
There are actually several Lyme sites for Australians, have you gone through them? There could be some valuable information in them.
There is evidence of Lyme in Australia, and this site seems to have quite a bit of good info on it as well:www.drmayne.com/Lyme.htm
Lyme can very much be a CNS infection, so be very careful to be evaluated properly.
At this point and the symptoms that you've shared, Lyme is a possibility.
Abx is one method of treatment, although most here have found that if they combine herbs with the abx, the results are much better. There are many here that have also found healing using only herbs (I'm one of them). So the choice is yours.
Blood testing for tick-borne diseases is tricky, even under the best of conditions. Here are a few of the reasons:
The bacteria doesn't stay in the blood - it actually prefers tissues, collagen, bones, organs and other things - it goes into the blood to replicate.
The best labs in the US are only testing for 4 or 5 strains of Lyme disease even though there are over 300 world wide with the potential to cause human infections. So if you have one of the 295 other strains that aren't tested for, you won't have a positive test result.
The bacteria can go into a cyst form, or change the proteins on it's surface so that the immune system doesn't even recognize it as an invader.
I would suggest that you eat a very healthy diet with as little processed food as possible - organic being the best.
Start detoxing - we have wonderful instructions to get you started in the "New to Lyme?" thread that sits at the top of the forum.
Start reading and asking tons of questions!!! Information is power with these infections. The sooner you get into good treatment with the type of medicine you choose or heal best with, the better chance you have of healing quickly and well.
We are here to do all we can to help you find your way, that's the beauty of joining a community!!
