has anyone used monolaurin for lyme? I guess it's from coconut oil's lauric acid (if I'm describing it right).

A lady I know in a circle of friends I have says that when her son got lyme disease that she started it with him and he is now symptom free. He did one month of antibiotics too, but what I don't know, b/c I don't know the lady well, is how far along her son's lyme was (I think he was diagnosed sooner rather than later), and what all his symptoms were. She mentions knee and joint pain mostly.

I definitely want to keep my son on antibiotics as long as he needs to be, but I wonder about supplementing with this monolaurin too, at the same time, and thought I'd see if anyone had used it before.

I tried it a few times but each time had to stop due to intolerable herxes. I'm not sure what it hit but it hit hard with severe right chest muscle pain. The next time I tried to work up slower but my back muscles just kept getting worse and worse so I stopped. It also seemed to kick up the fluey feeling I get.

I would let him try it though since there's gotta be something to this. A Lyme friend of mine takes it with no problem so everyone is different. Most do herx though from what I've read on the forums.

I started it about two weeks ago. I also started other supplements and I went downhill. I think i stirred up one of my co infections. I definitely think its worth it though. And i cannot say for sure if that caused my co infection to stir up but i do no when i took samento/banderol with the mono, my floaters in my eyes started moving and shaking and flashing like a light.

I think I may have him try it, but at very small doses. I'm sure it won't solve everything, but it's worth a try to help with some symptoms etc. as long as he's not herxing too bad from it.

I may wait until the 24th when we have an appt. with the new llmd, but order it in the meantime.
Thanks for the thoughts!

I use actual coconut oil and have benefited from it greatly. I didn't herx when I started it either. I don't know if it's because I use coconut oil instead of the concentrated Monolaurin though, since I've not tried using just monolaurin.

It is an antibacterial, antiviral, so I wouldn't be surprised if it caused herxing. I use coconut oil in cooking a lot, but can't take it directly since it bothers my throat, unfortunately.

hmm… maybe I'll just try coconut oil first since I have some of that in my fridge right now even. Still will consider monolaurin too.
