Hi Yellow Daisy,
I go with the others: a short explanation sounds the best approach. Something like 'I had to put my life on a hold for a while, cause I have Lyme Disease, you know, that bacterial infection mainly spread by ticks. It's very complicated matter, I would be glad to tell you more if you are interested?'. That, most of the time, will suff
When I'm really angry or frustrated, I sometimes give in to 'stalking' someone. I don't have a mean character, but when people push me, I can get annoying too...
I have this one 'friend' and whenever she's asking how I'm doing, she doesn't want to listen en takes really small steps away from me, rolls her eyes too. I don't stop telling her what's going on for several minutes. LOL
As for family... I have a large family, but we are not very family minded. There is no close contact with aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews. I don't see my mother, so it's basically only my dad and my sister. My sister understands, cause she has Lyme and Bartonella. My dad didn't understand. So my sister went up to him a few times and told him it is really hurtfull that whenever I call him, he wants to walk away from the subject, and that it is really hurtful to feel that he thinks our dr is a quack. My sister is still in pretty good shape, treatment has been much more difficult for me. She hasn't been ill for so long either. So she started the discussion, I don't have the energy. When I'm up to it, I sometimes respond when he's acting strangely 'Dad, why are you reacting like this? What is bothering you?'
He is starting to get it now. Also, he feels guilty that we contracted these infections. That plays too.
Husband has seen some documentaries, and there was a round table at the Belgian Senate last week, there was a documentary on national television last month. So he gets it that it is serious. But he sometimes hides from it cause he doesn't know how to handle it...
Good luck at the family reunion, you will do fine.
