i'm trying to get advice from all different groups to see if someone might have some insight...
I started treating lyme in April. My sleep prior to lyme was pretty bad, i twitched, twitching seemed to be my worst symptom.
My insomnia wasn't as bad as it is now (since treating).
I've noticed i get one good night of sleep to one bad. so every other night. It's clock work.
I did adrenal test and i'm low all day and then it's questionable what my nighttime is ... it looks pretty normal and a lot of pp are saying it's within a good range...
If it were my adrenals wouldn't they keep me up every night, not every other night.I tried seriphos last night as it use to work for me (when i was really high) and it didn't help. I also take 5 http, kavinace, gaba , melotinin to help with sleep.
i'm wondering if anyone has any insigt as to why this is happening every other night? why i sleep well one night and then next is awful? i try to stick to a very healthy sleep routine. I wind done around 8 pm and i'm in bed by 10-1030pm.
i'm waiting on sex hormones right now. I'm always been E dominant and my T is always low. Right now i'm just taking P. i'm wondering if treating lyme has increased my need of hormones???
ale i know is i'm stuck and i have no solutions as to why this happening.

thanks!
I just don't understand why it happens every other night?!? if it were adrenals wouldn't it effect me every night.
Since starting lyme tx i've gotten worse, but then again i just looked back the past two year on my excel sheet and this BS has been going on for so long.
I feel suck and i can't get answers! and i'm just a royal nuisance to my LLMD's office.

LOL.
I would certainly continue being "royal nuisance to your LLMD". They are getting paid to make us better and the more info we give them, the better they can arm themselves. :)

WELL that i am. But...

I haven't been tested for Cos as llmd doenst think testing is reliable.
What are you taking for babesia?
I'm on full cowden after doing abx for about 2 months. I've been on cowden for about 11 days.
But i've been battling sleep issues now for over 2 years and prior to that, but the last two years it's to a new LEVEL.
Well i have a call into LLMD, he told me to add in 5 http , along with my many other sups i take to help calm me down. But i never talk to him, it's always the sorta *****y nurse , who obviously doesn't have lyme...
LASt night i felt calm, i even felt tired but i couldn't sleep :(
I appreciate any feedback , even if you think it wont apply..it might!!!

It's possible - although I don't know how likely - that you are so worn down that your body can only stay up for 1 night before you 'crash' and can sleep.

I've had all kinds of weird sleep issues relating to insomnia. I take a lot of supplements for sleep and ambien in order to just sleep an average of 6 hours each night. Lyme and company can do the weirdest things to a person's sleep!!!

What about taking a detox full bath just before you start your night time routine? Many say it helps them relax, and the magnesium that you would be absorbing would go to helping the muscles relax as well.

Also, are you taking a magnesium supplement? Magnesium usually helps a lot with muscle twitching. Also avoid lemon juice and things in a vinegar base - this can increase muscle twitching in some people. I know that I had to stay away from those things for a while when my muscle twitching got really bad.

Yes, Lyme is known to mess with our hormones. I'm glad you are getting yours checked & hopefully you are getting them balanced back out. If your sleep issues are due to this, it should resolve once they are balanced again.

As for your adrenals, please read more about them on this site: www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/
This is a site that I have used extensively to help me understand a lot about adrenal & thyroid functions, test results and have even found a doctor to treat my thyroid and adrenals issues through them!
**a quick disclaimer: I receive no compensation of any kind for anyone visiting this site.

LLMD's nurse just called back , they said my viral load is very high and want me to take noni... i think i have active EBV and herpes 1 and 6?????
they said this could be contributing to my problems of sleep and they want me to make an appt to see them to go over everything in 2 weeks...

travler....
i do take detox baths of clay and epsom salts but i have noticed no correlation of taking the bath and me sleeping. I would take one every night if that was my golden ticket.
I do take mag, i've taken very high doses int eh past, right now i'm taking nutrimedix and i take around 500 mgs of malate.
surprisingly enough my worst symptom of twitching has gotten so much better.
I'm familiar with STTM and i've referred to their site as well.
I understand lyme messes with hormones but i feel treating lyme has made them worse....

@mommy,

It is possible that treating lyme could make hormone/adrenal issues worse. I had a theory that because I was ill with lyme for so many years before becoming REALLY ill, that my body overcompensated in some areas, undercompensated in others - in the hormone department. Once the pathogen was removed,it is POSSIBLE my body was like "uhhhhhhh, what the heck is going on?" and just kept doing its same thing that it was doing for months/years - except it effected me more because the compensation was not needed. It took time and a few supplements but my sleep did get back to normal and hormones too.

Keep working with your LLMD and see what they say and researching online. You will figure it out, though I know it is super frustrating right now!

You may be like me and have a difficult case of insomnia. I hope not though. I have to take 1,000 mgs of magnesium oxide in the morning and 1,000 mgs of it at night along with 500 mgs of magnesium arginate at night in order to keep my innerds working & muscle cramps/spasms down. Before, when I was still in treatment, I had to take larger doses to keep things operating well.

Maybe your not taking enough yet for your body? Just a thought. If you choose to raise up your dosage to see if it will help, make sure to raise it very slowly though - it can give you diarrhea.

I've often wondered about the hormone connection too. I know that Lyme messes with women's menstrual cycles - mine were almost non-existent and it varies widely. This year I was told that I not only wasn't in menopause, I was way past it. smhair I had no estrogen at all. Not that this is bad thing necessarily (I'm 51), but it was surprising to find out that I had no estrogen at all! I've wondered many times if it had anything to do with having had Lyme disease.

I sure wish they would get more research going on these things!!!

Just curious? How many cups of Epsom Salts are you adding to the baths? I would stop the clay and just use at least 4 to 6 cups of the Epsom Salts and 1 bottle of food grade 3% hydrogen peroxide.

Epsom Salts are magnesium and the best way to get them to work inside your body is through the pores of your skin (the reason why it's good to dry skin brush before getting into the bath). Detox baths have a cumulative effect... one to 3 baths a week will help but a detox bath every night is even better!!

I don't know much about hormones as I never researched them (I had to take an estrogen supplement and some other supplements when I was going through severe menopause right after peri-menopause) which helped me.

Hope this helps,
Denise
Totally healed for 8 years ~ used Dr. Jernigan's protocol from his book "Beating Lyme Disease"

Our bodies are wise as they can heal themselves with some help plus detoxing daily, eating healthy. I come back to help others for others helped me when I was sick. Pay it forward! :-)

I have read all sorts of theories on insomnia from lyme, I have it too. Pretty bad since January. My sleep became disrupted when I tried one pill of ativan and it has never returned. I usually can fall asleep but I wake up around 4 and then can't fall back asleep. It's hard to deal with.

I've tried tart cherry juice and magnesium before bed. I sometimes drink a large fruit smoothie before bed so I don't wake up hungry or from a drop in sugar.

I try to keep electronics to a minimum in the room (for emf sensitivity.)

Sometimes the meds cause insomnia too

adrenals are notorious for waking us around 4am. Have you tested your cortisol levels??
It may be an easy fix for you!

When I added more than 1 tab of magnesium malate, it sure makes me have issues on the toilet! Who knows why then? Maybe it's because of other intestinal issues that I have.

No, I'm 51, so I opted to not take estrogen and prolong my misery -LOL! I still get some hot flashes, but I'm having an easy time compared to many women going through menopause.

By the way, you all know why they call it menopause, right? wink Because it makes "men pause" Giggle! turn "Men-o-pause"

I've always has sleeping issues with my Lyme. Even years ago I remember sitting up with my Dad watching movies on VHS tapes (remember those???) There were a few we wore out!

A detox bath helps. I use 4 cups of Epson salt and 32 oz. of hydrogen peroxide and soak for at least 20 minutes (usually longer since I like to read in the tub).

I am so glad someone else brought up bathroom issues! Once I got back on treatment, it was one of the surprises that no one told me about. I told my hubby that I feel I'm 90 when the most exciting parts of my day are if I sleep through the night and if I have a normal bathroom day!! It is getting better but , man, have I gotten an education!

Every other day is the key here.

I've been experiencing the same for 2 years now and can't shake it off. It's also characterised by being tired / fatigued every other day with body aches and slight tension headache. On those bad days, I sleep well at night (because I'm exhausted) and the next day I'm 100%, it's a good day but then at night I'm not tired/sleepy and this cycles in a perfect one ON and one OFF fashion. I tried everything: intermittent fasting, 7 day water only fast. I'm currently on plant based diet for a month and no change unfortunately.

I was stuck in that mode to for a few years. Your description is perfect.

A sleep Dr said to stay up till I fell asleep in a chair- then get into bed. Did that - So I got less sleep, but the same amount every night after a while. I also tried all of the natural sleep supplements and used the ones which worked for me. You need to try them all probably.

20% of American have sleep issues, its not just us lymies, our bodies are stressed in multiple ways though.

The theory of going to bed early is BS for people with insomnia. Wait till your dead tired (late), then slowly go a little earlier day by day. As you can tell, I'm still not a fan of going to bed early, but I can now get 6 + hours 95% of the time, 9-10 hrs in a row on days off. Just not enough time in the day to sleep as much as I'd like to.

i would like to share my experience it is similar with Louise, falling asleep very nice but have been having periods when waking up every night around 1 pm or so, often sweating. I have put in system to then sit up in bed and start doing meditation. i keep it going for maybe an hour or so, then lie down and keep meditating while lying down until I fall asleep.

i have tried various supplements but now i have a very simple solution. I now buy eastern european garlic ham sausage and i eat about a 1/2 pound of it. It tastes good. It has absolutely no fat. And most nights i am out like a light for the night. It does not work though when i am highly stressed out by events of the day re work or family problems. Then nothing works. This idea of having pure protein just before sleep time does work reasonably well for me. xfmlg
