Sorry for the reason you're here but, glad you found this forum. I think it's awesome!
Trust your gut on this one....LLMD's (Lyme literate MD's) will not take a patient off antibiotics until they've been completely symptom-free for over a month and have taken antibiotics for 1-2 months after that.
As you can see from my signature, I started treatment immediately after the tick bite. Unfortunately, my PCP didn't recognize as possible Lyme the couple of weird issues I'd developed after going off antibiotics. (numbness in one toe and a fluid-retention feeling in both legs). She speculated that the 4 hr-long "feeling-like-I-was-coming-down-with-something" event I had was a virus.
It wasn't until after I had yet another 4-hr event of feeling like I was coming down with something for the 3rd time in as many months that I sought a LLMD. (I'd researched Lyme extensively since two close family members were affected and I remembered reading about
the sometimes cyclical nature of Lyme symptoms). The LLMD noted Bells Palsy in me that was so mild that neither I nor my family noticed it until I repeated at home the cheek-puffing he had me do in his office.
I am obvously back in treatment... and I just completed my 2nd month of antibiotics with the LLMD (a total of almost 3 months' worth of antibiotics). I'm still not done because I still have symptoms (very mild, thankfully).
BTW, I found my LLMD via ILADS and he *does* accept insurance (not mine, unfortunately). Once I got past the $300 fee for the 1.5hr first appointment, I've been OK with $85 for the monthly followups since my specialist co-pay is $50. Since I'm not drinking while being treated for Lyme, I figure that $35 difference that was probably spent on my 2 drinks/week is now better spent on beating Lyme lol
Best of luck to you moving forward! Hope you'll keep us posted and ask any questions that come to mind.
