For those of you who do not know me - I will give a brief (sort of!!) history of my battle with lyme

It all started a year ago in October 2013. Went hiking - got a tickbite, didn't realize what it was, bc there was no rash. November started with severe anxiety, weakness in my legs, depression and insomnia. Totally not me. December came and I had cystitis the entire month. Literally was in love with the bathroom (not)! January - i started getting little bits of joint pain here and there, ok, no biggie. Then I had conjunctivitis and a sinus infection. Took augmentin for a week. Two days later, I got a flash of pain all over my joints, I was in so much pain, but didn't feel sick. it was the weirdest sensation ever. Felt better the next day. Decided to take a dip in the jaccuzzi bc it was my bday weekend. Bad idea (obviously) - the next day the migrating pains started. Then came the muscle twitches, nerve pain, muscle weakness in my arms and legs....a week following the tingling and numbness started, then the nausea and the sweats, rib pain, foot pain,....... HOLD ON!!! I was an absolute WRECK. I am 39 yrs old, mother of 3 - I could not even take care of my kids. And what does the DR do - he gives me nortriptyline bc he says I have fibromyalgia - total BS. I didn't take it. my parents and my husband both suggestion lyme. I did the research and sure enough, I just knew it was that. The lyme test came back negative (just the well known ridiculous nonreliable ELISA test), and I tried to convince him that it didn't mean a darn thing but he wouldnt listen. I am a pharmacist, so I was lucky to have access to meds. Although I convinced a walk in clinic dr to prescribe doxy, she didn't give me enough until I saw my LLMD, so I helped myself to some extra where I worked (at the time).

In Feb of this year, my most wonderful LLMD who I owe my awesome health to clinically diagnosed me with lyme and bart. She started me off slow on doxy then added Zithromax then switched doxy to Bactrim (bc I couldn't handle doxy over the summer). I also took herbs such as teasel root, serrazymes, tried GSE, but it didn't agree with me, took a handful of vitamins, nutritionals, omega, fish oil, etc. She focused on the immune system. She said the antibiotics definitely kill the bacteria, but not alone - the immune system plays a huge role, which is why she is against giving any patient loads of meds at a time bc doing that damages the body's ability to fight on its own and causes more problems.

I stopped the Bactrim at the end of august
stopped the Zithromax on sept 19th.

over two months later, I am doing just great!!

Instead of taking cystbusters and such, I started magnetic therapy. I can't really explain it too well bc I am still trying to understand it myself. I just know that it works, for several reasons. it is supposed to "balance out" the body. It creates a magnetic force in the body that draws the bad stuff out into the open for the immune system to fight. It also is supposed to make your body highly alkaline, which we all know lyme does not like. I herxed after both treatments (one in sept, one in oct), and felt better after each time. All I have left now is a pinched nerve in my shoulder and twitches here and there (very seldom compared to what it used to be, supposedly all due to nerve damage). I asked my dr - "how can I be sure it is not the lyme causing this". she confidently said, it is not lyme, bc it is too localized. if you still had lyme, you would feel it through your body. she was right. I can literally say I am fine. and guess what else - I am not even taking herbs. some of you may say its a bad idea, but guess why I am not taking anything - bc I am PREGNANT!!

yes, I was in complete awe and shock and I don't know what else to say. I just went thru a hell of a year physically, but I am thrilled. I am not worried. I don't know why I am not worried. I guess bc I feel fine. I have been pregnant 7 times already, had 4 miscarriages. And I just got over lyme disease. my husband is taken aback on how calm I am. but even he agrees with me - I think I am in better health now then I ever was, which is why I got pregnant so easily. I had numerous issues in the past, always got pregnant naturally, but it took months of unprotected sex for it to finally happen. although we have had protected sex countless times in the past year, we have had unprotected sex maybe only 6 times in the past 3 months, and that was basing it on the rhythm method, so I should not have even been fertile - which means something - my body is in good shape and is ready for it. I have 3 kids, always wanted four, and pretty much decided against having anymore after suffering so much this past year. But may God's Will be done!

so here I go, full steam ahead - please wish me luck!! =)

WOW… CONGRATULATIONS!!

I just love your story. And no doubt you are healthier for many reasons, I'm sure—not the least of which is your inner peace and spirited engagement in life as a recovered lymee. ;)

And I LOVE your LLMD, too:
"She said the antibiotics definitely kill the bacteria, but not alone - the immune system plays a huge role, which is why she is against giving any patient loads of meds at a time bc doing that damages the body's ability to fight on its own and causes more problems."

I'm going to talk w/ my LLMD about this concept. I love it.

Thanks for sharing—

Good for you Chapelle! I am so happy for you!!!

Totally healed for 8 years ~ used Dr. Jernigan's protocol from his book "Beating Lyme Disease"

Our bodies are wise as they can heal themselves with some help plus detoxing daily, eating healthy. I come back to help others for others helped me when I was sick. Pay it forward! :-)

I have been anxiously waiting to hear your story, Chapelle and what a wonderful story it
is! Thank you so very much for sharing it and, most importantly, congratulations on getting
where you are today!

Even more importantly, best wishes for a successful pregnancy - it seems to be the perfect
culmination of all the great changes you made in promotion of good health.

I agree that you LLMD is onto something re strengthening the immune system. In fact, that's
been my focus all along - get the body in tip-top shape to fight the battle.

Much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. I'm doing happy dances for you! :)

What wonderful news Chapelle! Congratulations! My pregnancy has been nothing but a breeze (due in 5 weeks) and I am wishing the same for you!

It is odd for sure though. We used protection and I still got pregnant! Apparently after beating the crap out of lyme, our bodies really must have things going for it. Good luck!

Thank you all SO much. I am so glad my story was encouraging to you!

Pirouette - that sounds awesome!

Stacystar - I was so glad to hear from you! was wondering how your son was doing!! and for all of you who also don't know the "rest" of my story - all three of my kids had lyme too, and I gotta say, had I not gotten as sick as I did, I never would have learned so much about Lyme and how subtle the symptoms are in kids. I was very fortunate to have noticed it in them. They all treated with abx for three months, and 6 months of AL complex following, and are all fine, Thank God.

toddpaul, traveler, everyone - thank you!

opugirl - ok, girl, we gotta find out how this could happen?? LOL> If God willing this pregnancy goes well, how do I know I wont end up with 5 or 6 kids if protection doesn't work?? LOL - Much congrats to you!!!! I hope the last five weeks go smoothly for you! thanks for your kind words =)

garden peace, I will be on here more than once in a while, I promise that! I love this forum, it has helped me so much, and I just want to give back as much as I can. I went MIA for a good while, first bc of the beginning of school, and second because of my home business. I was so sick last winter, I couldn't really work anymore. I didn't quit pharmacy, but have taken a step back and developed my home ebay/amazon sale business so much that I am making just as much money at home vs working as a pharmacist! I was only working 10 hrs a week, but still! So now it is such a busy time bc Christmas is coming. Anyway, when I do go back into pharmacy, I am going to try to find a way to get involved in Lyme counseling somehow. In the few days I returned to the forum, I have received 5 personal email from individuals having questions for me. I LOVE that, I love helping others, which is one of the main reasons why I became a pharmacist!

I ordered a "Lyme Warrior" T-shirt and wore it in my Facebook profile picture months back. Well, now I think I am going to go ahead and order the "Lyme Survivor" T shirt!!! =)
Registered Pharmacist in NY

YaYYY HUGE CONGRATS on your healing AND being PREGO Chapelle!! This surely brightened my day! So wonderful for you to come back and share with us! I think you mighta had a "lil hunch" ;-) on how positive it is coming back and sharing is for your fellow members on here whom are still fighting the good ol lyme fight. I wish more people would vow to do this when they are healed.

I didnt know you were pregnant Opugirl, congrats to you also! That actually makes 3 that I know of our members that are currently pregnant!!! Sarah (aka username YOGI) is prego also right now if anybody remembers she recently checked back in about a month ago!!

-Courtney
Sx a week following pulling a tick off Summer '10. Oval rash. Initially doubted lyme since wasnt bullseye rash. Received short intervals of various abx 4 trtmnt. Naive to lyme, I gave Inf.D. doc benefit of the doubt & received 2 months of trtmnt (2nd mnth picc was inserted for IV meds). Time elapsed, tolerated sx. Things got bad 3/14-started treatment with LLMD 4/14(Lyme/Babs/Bart) Still treating~
