My daughter is well but she has been diagnosed with "Secondary Adrenal Insufficiency" for 2 years. She had both saliva and blood tests for the the adrenals. She also had an "ACTH Challenge Test" to determine whether the adrenals were at fault or whether the problem exists upstream with either the pituitary or hypothalamus. Her adrenals were found to be fine, but she is not receiving adequate ACTH from the pituitary to signal cortisol production.
The problem is managed with low dose cortisol replacement. We recently have received a prescript
ion for an MRI to check for a tumor on the pituitary, as astroman has suggested.
