Hi All,
I have had Lyme for 10 years diagnosed 1 1/2 years ago. Being treated with Doxy and Biaxin. Over the weekend I tried some natural stuff Quercertin and Ashgawandha loved both. However, Sunday I started getting heart palipaitations. Went to the E.R. Monday they saw nothing wrong. I now am wearing a monitor for 15 days and I can tell it is catching irregular beats because of how often it sends info to my doc. Anyway... I also have chronic pancreatitis (had it before Lyme) and it is flaring today something horrible. I would like to take some Tumeric to try and calm it or Ginger but wonder if either of these can cause heart palipitations. Does anyone know? I also just read that Biaxin can cause heart problems and I have been on it for a while. Maybe I need to change ABX. I have been on Doxy and Biaxin since treatment started. Would anyone mind sharing what they are on? I have a lot of neuro symptoms,
Thanks,
Shari

Many with Lyme have palpitations, but turmeric shouldn't cause them, neither should ginger. I take both of them regularly and at fairly high doses.
Herb only treatment for Lyme & Bart ended 12/11 - no active symptoms for 2 yrs -Herb only treatment for Babesia ended 12/12

I get it from Turmeric (and many other foods and drinks), but it's caused by a histamine intolerance.
Have you ever felt the same after eating certain foods?

Yes, turmeric can cause very massive heart palpatations if you take too much; and I don't need to look that up to give you that answer...I know from experience.

These are only in large amounts though, so you should be find if you don't take a lot. Like 1 teaspon might be a lot, if you don't take regularly. I used to mix it and take as tea...furthermore.....

...turmeric is a natural antiobiotc, so taking any during high detox might kill of bacteria and cause palpatations if you get some kind of herx reaction....

I haven't taken Turmeric yet (oddly enough I've been putting it off because everything seems to cause PVC's and tachycardia for me, too), but I've been told that it shouldn't cause any ill side effects. However, I've been told that before and always seem to be in that small percentile that gets the bad effects.

oh and ginger is a stimulant you know??? if you already have 'palps' ill be careful.

did your doc check your magnesium levels? one of the first things someone may be given when having a heart attack is magnesium....not saying you are having one but....

magnesium is a muscles relaxant...when you heart contracts....its magnesium that causes your heart to relax again. its your bodies natural muscle relaxant, and is needed for normal heart functioning...so maybe that will help with heart palpatations...

especially if your on one or more antiobiotics which most likely than not are depleting your magnesium levels, not to mention the herx reactions that may be causing toxins to enter your bloodstream effecting your nervous system to increase palpatations...; especially in combo with lyme disease and or/not getting enough magnesium from your diet in the first place.

I also know many many people with abnormal heart rythms and pvc's and other heart arrythmias that have success with magnesium..

i for one think its insanity if a doctor prescribes any medication without monitering your nutrient levels like long term; not only do many medication have side effects, and reverse normal bodily funcitoning(aka side effects), they can deplete nutrient levels.

This situation is stressful to hear........I hope you can try this because it has worked very well, during my nuero symptoms to help me temporarily lessen the nuero symptoms...try some green tea. it is strong antioxidant and i feel like it helps nuetralize the nuero symptoms by protecting against toxic damage while your body is infused with toxins that are causing inflammation in your brain......

There is no way of knowing exactly what is causing the palpatations...

Here's a list of possibilities:

1)magnesium depeletion from first antiobiotc
2) magnesium depletion from second antiobiotc
3) magnesium dpeleteion from both antiobiotics
4) toxins in your body/bloodstream affecting your nervous system
5) nuero may well be from inflammation in your brain from toxins

don't forget that it's not just lyme bacteria that you should consider as toxins, but also the antibiotics you are taking should be considered toxins too..drugs are drugs..toxic chemicals.

You can always go to your doctor..but the second he gives you an antiobiotic( or two)...and he's not making sure your magnesium and other nutrient levels are not already depleted by them..or at least eventually checking...that for me is 500% loss of trust...my opinion.

By the way...I consider myself pretty much fully recovered...and have been accepting people to email me my approach. Nuero symptoms were the highlight of my struggle. I don't recommend it for people on abx though. But maybe you may find a something useful.

Hi,

Was just reading up on your post regarding your experience with heart palpitations and tumeric and wanted to share with you what my weekend experience was like.

I made a juice in a vitamix blender consisting of the following ingredients, celery, carrots, green apple and a 3 inch long 3/4 in diameter piece of tumeric root. An hour and a half later my heart started to race and I tried everything I could think of to get it back down to normal but eventually it earned me a ride to the hospital with a drip in me that eventually brought it back down to normal. They took blood and looked at my vitals and everything looked good so they released me with recommendations to take a daily aspirin and another pharmaceutical.

I've been eating well the last five years because I am a diabetic and control my blood sugar without the use of meds. I am usually consistent with keeping my numbers under control. But I wanted to put in my experience as to what happened to me oh and up to the point of a racing heart I was actually push mowing the lawn for about an hour and a half; then the heart began to race.

Thank-you

John.
