I have woken up on occasion with tingling, and sore scalp at the top back of my head.

What is this a symptom of? Is it lyme, or bart?

And it seems to be worse on biaxin....is it a side effect of biaxin?

Well, I can confirm that it's not necessarily a side effect of any abx! I hate it when my scalp really hurts!! It literally feels like my hair is what's hurting! Oh, and move or try to brush my hair on days like that?? smhair I don't think so!!! Fortunately, I'm in no mood to leave the house anyway! LOL!

It could be a combination of Lyme and Bart that makes this more severe, since it would be the nerves in the scalp that are hurting and Lyme and Bart together can increase Neuro symptoms.
Herb only treatment for Lyme & Bart ended 12/11 - no active symptoms for 2 yrs -Herb only treatment for Babesia ended 12/12

I have/had that. For me it seemed to be worse when I was on abx. When I was on them, the pain was generally around the top back of my skull. It just hurt. I thought maybe it was tension related since I've been having a lot of problems with my neck and upper back. Since off the abx I don't feel it in the same way. But lately, I've had sore areas around my head . When I brought it up at my last appointment my doc thought it may be a symptom of a migraine and wanted me to pay attention to anything else going on. I'm really not sure what it could be anymore.

I get the same pain in my scalp. I feel it's herx from lyme bec. It increases with b.w. AL Lyme tincture.

Thanks, everyone - the reassurance helps (sorry you have it, but now I know that's most likely from Lyme or bart, or a herx from either)

My main symptoms are tingling on top of head, soreness on scalp, neck pain, balance issues. There are other things but i never have a day without the tingling. it is not always all day in fact it seems to start more later in the day.

This happens to me too every couple days! At first I thought it was because due to lack of energy I haven't been shampooing my hair every time I shower, but then I noticed the feeling even when I had washed my hair recently. Mine isn't so much of a tingling as it just hurting when I move my hair around even a little bit. The only time I've felt this exact sensation before was when I had to flu and everything hurt to move!
Hate that there are so many of us that have to deal with this, but feels nice not being in it alone.

Questions…

is this a tingling or a burning stabbing pain?? The scalp or the flesh beneath it? I have the latter, like my scalp is either on fire or I'm being scalped.

Me too Pirouette...I get burning scalp pain that comes and goes quite often. I didn't realize so many of us have this symptom! I get it on the top of my head and it hurts to even touch my hair when it flares up. I thought it was Bart related.

Well, mine isn't burning, but it tingles and hurts when it's touched. Either by moving my head on the pillow or touching with my hand.

Mine isn't a burning... it's more like what Girlie said. Tender when I move my head on the pillow, touch my scalp or move my hair around.

Thanks everyone!

Well, I think we've determined that this is not an uncommon symptom of Lyme and Co.

I feel better now....uh..sort of?

My LLMD told me this could also be shingles, which ticks can carry. Among other viruses, I had high EBV titers, HHV-1, 6, 8… I have not had any more of these burning scalp-painful to the tough episodes since going on the antivirals.

HOWEVER, since I started on the herbs, I have had stabbing pains in my scalp—it's a different kind of pain and more "to a point" like someone stabbed me. But I look around and no one is there. LOL

Chronic late-stage lyme—likely infected in 2000; Clinically dx 3/2014 w/ Babesia, tested positive for Bartonella, CDC-positive for Borellia. Multiple viruses and GI/immune treated first; started AL-Complex in May; started A-Bart and A-Bab in July; have IV port installed and started on Rosephin.
Detox: Pinella, Burbur, Parsley, Milk thistle seed, Burdock root tinctures; japanese knotwee

Hi Girlie,

My doctor seemed to think it was a bartonella thing. Hope you feel better soon!

Is your scalp clear yet? I️ have Lyme and experiencing the same.
I️ have raisedbumps that are tender. I’ve had antibiotic intravenous
For two months three months somewhat symptomatic and now back to the head sores. I lost patches of hair the last time I️ went through this this. It’s just growing back and the scalp is getting worse.
Was wondering if you had any relief?
Thanks

Is this a parasitic infection from Lyme? Mine feels alive under the scalp! Raised pumps that hurt.

I have the same...a really tender spot around the back of my head. I thought it was due to the fact that i tie my hair back at first, then i stopped tying it back so much and it still feels really tender to touch. I agree, it is great to be able to ask the questions regarding odd symptoms on here and realise we are all suffering some of the same.

Yes, mine is better. There wasn't anything you could see on my scalp...just what I could feel. I think it was better within a few months... and it hasn't come back.

I think it must have been lyme - because I wasn't on the bart meds when it got better.

Mine is full blown right now. Pressure on top of head and tingling big time. Neck pain as well. I have been feeling horrible with this. It tends to come and go. Sometimes a sore scalp too.
I recently started the buhner protocol. No help yet.

Wow I thought I was the only one.

I need to get regular haircuts to relieve "pressure" from my scalp, I just realized that wasn't until I got Lyme.

Not really sure what to add to this discussion, I thought I was crazy for getting haircuts all the time.

You're definitely not the only one!

I would guess dental issue referring to scalp-probably uppers.
That's what mine was

I was just about to start a post on this yesterday. My scalp has been sore recently and my hair is starting to come out. It started after I kept increasing antimicrobial herbs - IHA, sida acuta, cats claw. I think it's a herx from either Lyme, bartonella, or babesia. Those are the ones I'm treating. I took a break from all the herbs last night and today except for knotweed to try to get the inflammation down. It's uncomfortable.

Scalp feels sensitive and burning - worse on the top but somewhat all over. I'm feeling more inflamed all over really. Also, when I touch my head there are tender spots on top of my head. I think all this happened before when I first developed full blown chronic symptoms, but it's been so long ago I can't remember for sure. Today, I was actually thinking it feels like toxins coming out my brain and trying to get out through my scalp. Maybe trying to push its way out through the hair follicles, and that's why my hair's falling out. (I know - sounds looney, but that's what it feels like.)

Also, I've noticed hairs are coming out when I comb my hair or run my fingers through it. That wasn't happening before. No clumps or anything alarming - just noticeably different from my norm. Hair has been thinning for some years now, but I'm 47 so I thought it was just age. I used to have really thick hair.

Since I started the Mepron - my hair has changed. The natural curl is gone.

I can't figure out why. I am not losing any hair though. It's just my hair texture has changed.

It didn't happen when I was treating Bart. I'm wondering if it's a side effect of Atovaquone?

I should start a new thread about that.

Yes, it is. My hair was fine until a few months after I started a full Babesia protocol.
